WARSAW, Poland (AP) -- A prosecutor says that 23 Poles including two former employees of the Netherlands-based Philips company are to go on trial in Poland on corruption charges.
Prosecutor Andrzej Laskowski said Tuesday that the trial is to open June 13 in the southern city of Katowice, where most of the defendants live. The indictment was made in December 2009.
The former head of the medical section and the former regional head of Philips Polska could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted of offering bribes of up to euro100,000 ($140,000) to hospital directors in southern Poland to persuade them to buy Philips equipment.
Sixteen hospital heads could face up to 10 years in prison for taking the money. Five others face up to eight years for incurring financial losses to Philips Polska.

Philips bribed Polish hospitalsPhilips employees are suspected of bribing hospital directors in Poland. In exchange for bribes, hospitals procured Philips equipment, announced the Dutch Broadcasting Corporation NOS based on the Polish judiciary. Three employees of Philips would have established a fund for bribery. An agent of another company, Marian Kulig, arranged the bribing of the hospital administrators. Kulig said on Dutch Radio 1 that total, Philips would have sent about 12.5 million kick-backs from Prague and Hamburg. " All profits from Philips in Poland have been obtained from crime." - witness Marian Kulig. In 2007, eventually he moved to the Polish justice system, which started an investigation. Meanwhile Kulig has become a witness. He is not charged himself, but 23 others are, including three former directors of Philips. One of them was fired when he confirmed the bribery. Philips investigates the matter but did not want to give a statement (comment) to the Dutch TV ( NOS). Source: NRC-HandelsbladP.S.- I saw a Polish guy explaining the Philips case on Dutch TV (NOS). I don't remember if he was Marian Kulig.

dearkitty.blogsome.com/2011/05/17/philips-in-poland-suspected-of-bribery/It is the Philips Poland branch, the headquarters in Amsterdam are extremely worried about the case! (The German branch is involved) This was the broadcast I saw today! The case is very damaging for Philips, because a lof of their production and profit comes from specialized, high tech hospital equipment (from radio active, cancer radiation machines), to all kind of electonic sergery equipments. I worked in a Dutch hospital in Arnhem, and most of it's specialist electronic and mechanical equipment was from Philips. They had some of the organical, internal research equipment (like camera's who can go inside a body) too, but I don't remeber if that was Philips equipment. Ik worked at the Communication and Public relations branche of the hospital as a Desk Top Publisher.
