During the parades teams from all over Poland come with their dragons and walk in the streets of the Old Town. Then a beauty (ugly) contest is held for dragons.
People come and have fun watching dragon parades, and later on concerts, plays, performances, firework displays, visiting stalls and shops, etc etc.
We went to two parades:, in 2004 and 2005. These photos are scanned.
The 4th Dragon Parade took place in May 2004 and was devoted to the European Union. Teams of kindergarten and school pupils marched with their dragons through the streets of the Old Town in Krakow, Poland. Dragons were made of commonly available materials. The size, shape, movement, colours and special effects depended solely on makers` imagination.
The 5th Dragon Parade in 2005 commemorated the 750the anniversary of the city of Kraków.
This dragon from the city of Łódź (Boat) won the first prize.
Of course it is only a part of the dragons displayed during parades. There were many more....
