Fryderyk Chopin frigate docks in London 06.09.2010 14:01
Thousands of Londoners are visiting STS Fryderyk Chopin, one of the world’s largest frigates and now moored in St. Katherine docks near Tower Bridge in London.
London is the 18th port of call on the route for the ship, which is taking part in the ‘Promote Poland Together” project run by Poland‘s national tourist agency.
STS Fryderyk Chopin will dock in London until 12 September and will take part in the Thames Festival.
The ship is over 55 meters long and her masts reach 37 meters. The majority of the 40 person crew are students, who are now busy showing off the sailing ship to British tourists.
After a tour of the decks and cabins the visitors can watch an unusual ballet on the masts and take lessons in the classic Polish dance, the polonaise.

Parade of Polish navy. Not too big or modern but of great traditions and very patriotic. The Polish marine anthem: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morze,_nasze_morze Chocia¿ ka¿dy z nas jest m³ody, lecz go starym wilkiem zw±. My, stra¿nicy polskiej wody, marynarze polscy to. Morze, nasze morze, wiernie ciebie bêdziem strzec. Mamy rozkaz ciê utrzymaæ, albo na dnie, na dnie twoim lec, albo na dnie z honorem lec, z honorem lec. ¯adna si³a, ¿adna burza, nie odbierze Gdañska nam. Nasza flota, choæ niedu¿a, wiernie strze¿e portu bram. Morze, nasze morze, wiernie ciebie bêdziem strzec. Mamy rozkaz ciê utrzymaæ, albo na dnie, na dnie twoim lec, albo na dnie z honorem lec, z honorem lec.
Sea, our sea, we shall guard you faithfully, We have orders to keep you, Or to lie on your bottom, Honourably.
The ships display the Polish navy jack:
