What urban legends do you remember or heard recently?
The one which scared us s....less when we were children in 1970s was the legend of the black Volga. It was a car of Soviet production
The legend said that they were driven by blood snatchers. They kidnapped children and sucked their blood. Some people claimed the blood was then sent to the Soviet Union to supply daily transfusions for Leonid Breshnev, the dying leader of the USSR.
We were really scared. Parents had to collect us from school, especially when the days were shorter in winter time.
The fear was so great that we overreacted to any car. One day we spotted a car near the school. There was a first aid kit inside. We started imagining it contained syringes and needles to suck blood. And we panicked and ran away from it. I could be about 9 years old then.
A cheeky gypsy driver from Romania tried to stop a woman driving a car with her child. Those gypsy guys are known for selling their fake stuff to naive people on the road, I met them first time 20 years ago.
After the incident the rumour rose that gypsies snatch kids on Polish highways.
