It broke my heart to take down that nest in the wreath. Both birds fluttered nearby when I took it down, which only made me feel worse. I tried putting the nest in a crabapple tree because I couldn't bear to get rid of it.
Don't feel too badly. House finches have managed to survive and thrive in an environment that is not natural to them. In other words, they are very adaptable and will find somewhere else to nest. They are not cavity nesters, so birdhouses will not interest them, but they will find a location they find suitable. And I'm curious...what did they attach their nest to under your deck???
