Can you believe that in communist times it was often the taxi driver who decided where to go? A cabbie used to pull at the taxi rank and informed prospective passengers where he was planning to go. The guy who was lucky enough to go the same direction got in and happily drove away.
I remember it like today, one evening in early 1980s we picked an American family from the railway station in Krakow and tried to get a cab at a rank. About 5 cabs pulled over but we couldn`t get in because they were going in another direction. Unbelievable! Especially compared to today, when cabbies beg for passengers due to fierce competition.
That is just another reason I have never supported communism.
Ms, I am going to Psie Pole. Are you interested?
Pessimistic taxi rank:
PS. It happened a few times to me but it would be unfair to say it was a norm in those times. A lot of cabbies were OK.
PS2. The motiff of wayward taxi drivers even apeared in comedies at the time: 11:20
