And after standard Polish architecture, something unusual
Temple Wang, the protestant church from Norway
Wang Temple, located in Karpacz Gorny 885 m asl, is a wooden church built at the turn of 12th and 13th centuries. It was originally erected in the town of Vang in Southern Norway but in the 19th century it was moved to Poland.
The church is one of very few wooden monuments of Roman Scandinavian architecture which survived to our times. It is a magnificent example of the Scandinavian folk architecture with beautiful sculptured ornaments. The temple is built of wood except for the granite tower, which was built when the church was moved onto its present location. Its main aim is to protect the wooden construction against the strong winds blowing from the direction of Sniezka peak (the highest peak of Karkonosze mountains).
Wang Temple was moved to Karpacz at the instigation of the countess Fryderyka von Reden from Bukowiec. She wanted the temple to became a parish church for protestants living in Karpacz and its vicinity.
