Regarding the computer thief, And many say, dumb Pollack! Now who is dumb?
Regarding the sign, why would real Polish men do this, even for money? Could it be, they are young and don't know what it stands for, and all the hurt it caused, and pain, and lost life's?
Why do the rest of you think they did it? I think they must go to prison for life, or longer. What do you all think?

Regarding the computer thief, And many say, dumb Pollack! Now who is dumb? A similar thought came to my mind. But I would be more proud if a Pole got a Nobel Prize instead. ;D ;D ;D ;D They are pro thieves. Deprived of any morals. They would rob an old disabled lady if they had a chance. If you had a car accident and lay unconscious on the road, they would rob you and ran away with your wallet, leaving you there. Besides, they are utter ignorants, I suppose. They know nothing about history as they probably barely finished the primary school. They got the order and tried to realise it without deeper thinking. They did it for money. The Swedish instigator promised them 50.000 zlotys to share.

Prisoner wins marriage case at human rights court 05.01.2010 15:27
The Tribunal in Strasbourg has ruled against the Polish authorities following a complaint filed by a convicted man who was refused leave to get married. The Tribunal decided that the refusal violated the European Human Rights Convention, as personal liberty was not a condition needed to take advantage of the right to marry. The man had wanted to marry a female convict he had met while serving a sentence in the same institution. In June 2003, both the man, who had been in the meantime transferred to another jail, and his fiancee applied for leave to get married.
When the prison authorities refused, the man took his case to Strasbourg.

Cops nab 15 year-old driver 16.01.2010 14:00
A fifteen year-old and his two passengers are detained by police at the wheel of a car he bought for peanuts.
Police in the northern city of Słupsk are looking for the former owner of a 32-year-old Volkswagen after they stopped the car when being driven by a 15-year-old with two 10-year-old passengers.
The under-age driver said he had bought the car for 50 zl (around 12 euro).
He told police that after he’d bought the vehicle he took his small brother and his friend for a ride. According to observers, he had driven the car, “in a strange way but not dangerously,” and parked it correctly in a supermarket lot.
Police are now looking for the car’s original owner, who could face legal consequences for selling it to a minor. (ek)

Auschwitz sign arrest warrant issued 15.01.2010 15:18
The Swedish man who allegedly masterminded the theft of the “Arbeit Macht Frei"” sign from Gate 1 at the Auschwitz museum in December has been identified and prosecutors in Krakow have issued a warrant for his arrest.
“We have already issued the arrest warrant for the Swedish suspect to be brought to police headquarters in Krakow,” said Boguslawa Marcinkowska from the Prosecutor's Office in Krakow.
Five Poles were arrested on December 21, three days after they stole the infamous sign from the former Nazi death camp. The sign was found 200 kilometers away in Torun, northern Poland, cut into three pieces.
But the five Poles were not acting alone and had been paid around 5,000 euros by a former neo-Nazi in Sweden, who says that he was going to pass it on “for millions” to a collector, possibly, it is believed, resident in Great Britain.
The man has been identified by Swedish press as Anders Högström. "My role was to go get the sign in Poland. I was the middleman and was supposed to take care of the sale," he told Swedish daily Expressen this week.
Högström – described as a former leader of a 160-member strong neo-nazi group based in Karlskrona, south east Sweden – told the Aftonbladet newspaper that they were going to use the money gained from the theft to launch a campaign against parliament and some of Sweden’s top politicians.
He also said that he abandoned plans to pass the infamous sign on to the collector after he noticed the international outcry caused by the theft. This made him contact the “Swedish press, Europol and police in Poland,” he claimed.
Swedish nazis
Anders Högström first came to light in the Swedish media in 1996, when church authorities came across cakes and other items celebrating Hitler’s birthday in premises lent to Högström and others.
Högström now says that he has been drifting away from Nazism since the murder of two policemen in 1999 by members of his group. This is why he finally led policeto the Auschwitz sign and the robbers who stole it.
A different version of the story is given in the journalist blog site Politikerbloggen, in association with the TV 4 television channel in Sweden.
A business man who says he knows Högström claims that there was no international collector and that the whole story was made up to make Anders (in)famous. The man also says that the Aftonbladet tabloid paid Högström for the interview he gave to them, admitting that he was the man that masterminded the theft of the Auschwitz sign. (pg/mg) =============================================== Dog house or death factory? 12.01.2010 15:41
Over 140 dogs have disappeared from a canine shelter in the eastern city of Lukow. Animal rights organizations claim that the dogs have been slaughtered.
Animal rights activists claim that the shelter run by Urszula Konstantais is a death factory, where dogs are slaughtered for money.
In two years over 270 dogs were officially registered at the shelter but no one knows where they were kept or where they have gone. They were supposed to be adopted or moved to another dog shelter in Wolomin, 20 km east of Warsaw run by Marek Klamczynski. However, an inspection at the Wolomin shelter in 2006 has found that no dogs from Lukow were ever kept there.
A dog shelter in Lukow is the cheapest dog-house in the Lukow county. Local authorities pay 200 zloty (49 euro) a month for catching and looking after a dog, while in other dog shelters the price reaches even 500 zloty (123 euro) .
However, conditions in the dog-house are bad: dogs are kept in tiny cold and dirty kennels and usually do not get food. The head of the shelter told TVP television that the money from the local government does not cover all the expenses. The shelter provides room for only twenty dogs, but Konstanta assures that the rest of the dogs caught on the streets is adopted or moved to another shelter.
The Prosecutor’s Office, which investigated the case twice, did not manage to solve the mystery of disappearing dogs from Lukow. The fate of 3,000 dogs from Wolomin shelter is also unknown. Klamczynski received 1.6 million zloty (390,000 euro) for the dog-house from local authorities but, equally to dogs, the money disappeared. (mg/pg)

In one of my favourite books, The Godfather by Mario Puzo, there is such a passage about dr Jules who tells Lucy about his trips to Mexico in 1940s: She found out that beneath his professional doctor`s exterior he was wildly fun-loving and reckless. On weekends he drove a souped-up MG in the California races. When he took a vacation, he went down into the interior of Mexico, the real wild country, he told her, where the strangers were murdered for their shoes and life was as primitive as a thousand years ago.. How far has Poland managed to get ahead of 1940s Mexico? Two brothers are facing a life sentence for killing a young man in order to take his trainers worth 200 zlotys, about 80$. They struck him with a stone, then strangled, took the shoes and threw the body into the road ditch in the suburbs. www.tvn24.pl/-1,1638911,0,1,zabili-za-buty-odpowiadaja-przed-sadem,wiadomosc.html

Talking about stereotypes, in Germany Poles have a bad opinion of car thieves. Why? In 1990s, the newly created capitalist Polish gangs were too underdeveloped and had too poor connections to deal with such serious stuff as drugs. Instead, they stole cars in Western Europe and moved them to former Soviet Union countries. Later on major car gangs were broken or switched to other forms of illegal business. But amateur car thieves are still caught here and there: www.tvn24.pl/12690,1602556,0,1,dziupla-pelna-mercedesow-rozbita,wiadomosc.html www.tvn24.pl/-1,1640704,0,1,policja-rozbila-gang-zlodziei-samochodow,wiadomosc.html

Top 10 most wanted cars by Polish thieves 02.02.2010 18:36
Fiat 126p - thieves can’t keep their hands off them
Car thieves still can’t resist a Polish made Fiat - that’s the surprising conclusion of a new police report.
Almost 17,000 cars were stolen in Poland last year. Most of them were German and Japanese vehicles but the good-old Polish Fiat was also a target of thieves in Poland.
According to police, Polish thieves stole mainly Volkswagen Passat and Golf - over 3,000 of them, in fact, Audi A4 and A6 - almost 1,000 - then Skoda Oktavia and Toyota Corolla.
“Surprisingly, the Polish Fiat 126p is still popular loot of Polish thieves, who strip it down it and sell the parts,” says Agnieszka Hamelusz from the Police Headquarters.
Ford Focus and Escort and Toyota Avensis were also frequently stolen.
Police claim that cars are usually stolen by professional thieves, who specialize in stealing a particular make of car.
Theft, however, is becoming more high tech the further up the quality chain you go. In order to steal brand new and luxurious cars thieves usually hack onboard computers or jam alarm systems, rarely stealing car keys or breaking windows.
And insurance scams are growing in number. “Recently more and more people report a car theft in order to wheedle money from insurance companies,” says Hamelusz.

Record amount of cigarettes smuggled from Russia 15.02.2010 16:08
Customs agents in the eastern Podlaskie region have seized a record amount of smuggled cigarettes worth over 5 million zloty (1.2 million euro).
The smuggled cigarettes were discovered in the Polish-Belarusian border town of Bobrowniki in a truck which was supposed to have been carrying wood shavings and kindling from Russia to Poland.
The truck driver, a 46-year-old Russian citizen, was taken to a customs holding cell.
The 650,000 cigarette packages – none of which were marked in the Polish language – marks a record seizure for customs officials. The goods and truck were confiscated and taken to a customs storage unit.
The Russian driver faces 5 years in prison for smuggling charges. Had the illegal cigarettes entered the Polish market, the National Treasury and EU budget would have lost 11.5 million zloty (almost 3 million euro) in excise and VAT taxes. Poland’s prisons overflowing 12.03.2010 08:40
Despite new guidelines brought in last year, Poland’s prisons are still overflowing, necessitating convicts to be released before the end of their sentences.
Three thousand prisoners will be released before the end of their sentence in prison, writes Rzeczpospolita. Each prisoner currently has less than 3 square meters of living space.
Courts have begun to grant non-custodial sentences more often and those already in prison, if the sentence does not exceed 3 years, are granted early release or put on probation.
Poland currently puts 235 per 100,000 of the population behind bars, compared to 110 in Austria, 100 in France, 95 in Germany and 113 in the Netherlands.www.thenews.pl/national/artykul127305_polands-prisons-overflowing.html

64 caught in child porn sting 25.03.2010 12:02
Sixty-four people from around Poland have been detained on charges related to child pornography, under sting operation ‘Charly,’ a cooperation between Polish Luxembourg police.
“The investigation opened when police from Luxembourg discovered a server containing thousands of pornographic photographs of children from which dozens of Polish people were downloading photos,” stated Agnieszka Hamelusz, from the press office at the National Police Headquarters.
The Luxembourg police provided their Polish counterparts with IP addresses, allowing local police to indentify the locations of the computers containing pornographic material.
During the sting operation, which took place simultaneously in 14 provinces around Poland, 56 computers, 1600 CDs and DVDs and 21 hard drives were seized.
This is the third such crack down on child pornography in Poland already this year. In February, police arrested 12 people for distribution of underage porn in cooperation with German police. In January, 120 people were detained on similar charges.
Between 2007-2009, Polish police have detained over 1,000 people suspected to being involved in the distribution of child pornography, 299 of those detained were arrested and charged.

Treasure hunter cops more than treasure 29.03.2010 16:19
A treasure hunter, trying to sell a medieval spearhead and 17 century coins recovered from illegal digs has been detained by police in Skierniewice, central Poland. He was spotted by members of s special police unit, which monitors auction portals with an eye to illegal sales of historical objects and collectibles.
The man wanted to auction the spearhead for an asking price of 500 zlotys, a spokesperson for the Lodz province police Magdalena Zielinska said. Officers observed the auction until they discovered the identity of the 52-year old man. A search of his house yielded 17th century coins and other objects from illegal excavations.
The man denied he was an illegal digger and claimed the coins and the spearhead were found by his late father. But he may still hear charges of appropriation of historical objects since possession of objects obtained from illegal excavations is a crime, which carries a penalty of up to two years behind bars.
Amateur archeologists in Poland need a special permission to conduct digs but many decide to break the law, inspecting promising sites with metal detectors and often ruining valuable finds, experts saywww.thenews.pl/national/artykul128453_treasure-hunter-cops-more-than-treasure.html=============================================
