It is Helena Modrzejewska, a famous Polish actress who lived and worked in partitioned Poland, but tired of the political situation (Russian censorship) and animosities in her workplace (envy!), took the deliberate decision of leaving for the USA to develop her career even further, stayed there and was granted American citizenship in 1883.
