gigi ---> I'm glad you are not shy thanks, good luck is now indispensable for me on Friday I had a very difficult test in British literature (the age of sensibility and Romanticism) and I hope I'll pass it ;] Bonobo --> hmmm it's very strange.. do you mean "the peace symbol" which is called in Polish "pacyfa" ( pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacyfa ? if yes.. I've never heard it's the Polish victory sign.. it's rather hippie symbol.. or satanic symbol .. or maybe you mean the national emblem of Poland - white eagle ? pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/God%C5%82o_Polski in comparison with American Seal of the President of the United States en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Seal_Of_The_President_Of_The_Unites_States_Of_America.svgIf so you are quite right our national emblem is a symbol of independence and sovereignty There are lots of differences which can amazed us locopolaco --> Czesc are you Polish?

Hey everyone. I am studying the possibilities of living in Poland. As everyone knows, we have to know everything about the country before we accept this new idea. I've researching the web, but still I have no answers to some questions... Anyway, would anyone help me, preferably someone that has passed through the same things... - is food cheap or expensive? breakfast, lunch, meal and dinner (how much $? - clothing, for the cold climate - cheap? how cold is it? - transportation - international license ? renting car or buying? in krakow, is everything far or close (e.g. supermarket, bakery, fastfoods, malls) - bank account (howtos) - social security number (howtos) - general expenses like entertainment (what is there to do?) - rental ? Well... Help me out.>!

Oops... sorry for not introducing myself and being unpolite... You weren`t impolite. Just a bit hasty.... It seems your moving to Poland is coming soon and you are running short of time... Hello, I am George. But call be Bonobo. Good you said about Brazil. It is important to know where sb comes from. E.g., you asked a question about food. I know from press articles that people in Brazil eat a lot of rice and don`t eat potatoes. So, is it right if I supply you with the price of rice instead of potatoes??? ;D

Hi Folks,
I am Pieter from Holland, the city of Arnhem. My interests are history, art history, painting, photography, art & culture, media, cinema, foreign affairs, Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. My core interests are Poland and Russia. Next to that I am very fond of the Czech republic, Prague (the city of Franz Kafka) and Southern-Bohemia (České Budějovice), Budapest, Krakow, Berlin and New York.
The Post-communist (young) Polish generation fascinates mee, because they are very cosmopolitan and English speaking.
I am very positive about present day Poland and Poland in the future, in the sense that Poland develops itself financial-economically, social-cultural, geo-political, scientifically, intellectual and militairy. Poland has gained a position in Central-Europe, in Europe as a whole (via it's representation in the EU parlaiment, Brussels bureaucracy, European Commission -Danuta Hübner-) and in the NATO organisation.
Poland is a memory from my childhood in the seventees and teenage years in the eightees.
Pieter

Thanks! Hi skydragon, Thanks for joining us, and Welcome! You'll feel at home here in no time at all. You are fortunate to be fluent in both English and Polish. There are some of us (me) who would love to speak Polish and struggle to pick up simply the basics!

Hi, I'm new here. Have no idea how this works but getting the hang of it. I hope..... Hi skydragon, Welcome to the forum! I also envy your ability to speak both languages. I have been practicing Polish over the last 3 months, and I agree with jeanne that it is a bit of a struggle to learn. But it is a beautiful language, and I hope to learn more. Occasionally I try to do so in the forum, which is probably a good source of humor for everyone. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you. You will have an interesting perspective to add, being first generation American. Can I ask which part of Poland your parents are from and when they came to the U.S.? We definitely are a source of fun! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the warm welcome. My mother is from Warsaw and father from Sosnowiec. They were displaced after the war. My grandfather was a pilot and worked with the American forces to free Poland.

Nancy,
We have it all here, but don't let this scare you, if you don't like something, just say so, or look the other way. Many great people here, and most will help all they can. Post often so we can get to know you. I know you will like the full group, even some people put up with me, and my ideas.

We do get political at times, but it is usually limited to one or two threads, so you can conveniently avoid those if you desire; I certainly try to!
