Very nice! To view these paintings stirs emotions that perhaps non-hunters don't fully understand. These pictures spoke to me very well! I don't relate much to the aristocracy ones, but they were still very enjoyable. Thank you for posting them!

Thank you Bonobo. I'm a hunter myself here in the States (PA) and I really like this particular painting. It's very rustic and looks a lot like some of the areas my dog and I hunt. (Of course, I don't use a horse.) I'm going to see if I can get a reproduction of it for myself. [/img]

This is a beautiful painting...but can you tell me why there is a friar on the hunting expedition, and why is he holding the barrel of the gun...to prevent the hunter from shooting at the bear and possibly hitting the two men in front of it?

I did some internet searching and found that Jozef Brandt is not the artists name. His correct name is Joseph Von Brandt. It would appear that the artist is German rather than Polish.

Nice to meet you Crazyhorse! That's a pretty good looking dog you have there. I'm in SW Ohio. Are those snake-proof chaps or just trying to keep the pickers from tearing up your jeans?

"Patch" is a Frenck Britt. Ten years old this season and still going strong. The chaps are just regular to fend off the Gereenbriar and Multifloral Rose stickers. I do a lot of small game hunting (Pheasant and Bob White Quail) in S. Jersey.

Does anyone know of where I can purchase a print of the painting "Gajowy" (Gamekeeper) by Jozef Brandt?

I figured you were a bird man. Patch looks like a good dog! Few people really understand the experience of working with an animal by your side. It gives you a greater understanding of your own humanity and the wonder that is the natural world. I get it. I asked about the chaps because I typically hunt W. Kentucky and deal with some pretty lethal snakes. (Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Timber Rattler.) Bow season is worse than Deer gun season, except on sunny days. Snake-proof boots and chaps are also good for keeping the pickers from shredding my thighs.
Here's some video I took last November. Nothing interesting till about 4:00.
I wish I knew where you could find a copy of the painting. Interestingly, When I looked at the painting and considered Bos' question, I noticed the man in the upper left pointing upwards. My guess would be that he is pointing at a cub in the tree. This presents an interesting moral dilema for all involved. To kill the bear would cause orphaning of the cubs, whilst not killing it may cause the death of the two nearest the bear. Having a man of the cloth in a hunting picture otherwise makes little sense. A statement about mercy or martyrdom perhaps.

I've searched the net looking for reproduction paintings or posters of this particular piece and artist and can find nothing. I'll keep searching. Yes, I dearly love bird hunting. Here's a photo of Patch and me in S. Jersey hunting Quail. I also do some hand engraving. Check it out. www.pbase.com/crazyhorseI also do some hand engraving. Check it out. www.pbase.com/crazyhorse

Yes, I also found Joseph Von Brandt, but I couldn't find any of the picture reproduction sites that had the picture of the "Forester" which was the second picture shown on this thread. It's the one with the hunter on a white horse with his shotgun slung over his shoulder and across his chest.
I like your idea of having a copy made by a professional copy shop.

It looks like the original is 45cm x 60cm. (18 x 24) Should turn out OK with what's here. I used Tin-Eye to try and find a higher resolution, but, no joy.
