I use mostly British textbooks during my lessons. From time to time the name of a school appears. Apart from saint patrons like St. George`s School, they also have names connected with locations: Greenhill School, Pine Street School etc.

In Poland schools are named only after famous people or groups - leaders, writers, scientists etc. No 1 is of course JPII.

That's a pity...here in the U.S. we have monuments to Poles, most notably to Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Here in my state of Massachusetts, Boston has a traffic circle bearing his name and a statue of him in the Boston Public Gardens,

In every major Polish city there is sth like Washington Avenue or Square. Not to mention statues to Ronald R. and others.

I checked one of them - Neculaie Negura because his name sounded so unusual for a Dutchman.

So it must be a European thing then because Polish media and police sites also abstain from revealing nationality.

It might seem a little harmful because if you know which country the guy comes from, you may more easily recognise him when you visit this country as a tourist. Surely, it doesn`t happen very often, but why not count on luck?
Besides, you might use the nationality info to narrow down the range of your private investigation. Instead of a wide perspective, you focus on one particular group.
Finally, some people need more data to remember the case - nationality is additional info which might help them put certain facts together one day.

But I suppose all those trivial reasons mentioned above are outweighed by the right of suspect`s compatriots to prevent their nationality from being tarnished in the media. Why should innocent people suffer because of one lowlife?

During recent riots in which also French high school students protested against education reforms, in one town the detainees were made to kneel down against a wall with their hands up.
Any police chief who commands his men to do such a thing in Poland will kiss his job goodbye next day. Too many connotations with WW2 and public executions that Germans performed in Polish cities and villages.

Thank god the public tv crime suspect program "Opsporing verzocht" (Detection Request ) is less political correct and says for instance: "The purpetrators of the violent act of beating and kicking an innocent man with arms and legs on his body and head, were tall native European loooking men, with blue eyes and blond hair, who spoke standard Dutch. If you recognise one of these suspects on the video, please call your local police station." Or in another case: "The 2 men with hoodies, had a North-African appearance, light coloroured skin -meaning brown and not black skin color- and spoke with a Moroccan accent, they used heavy violence against the juweler, who is still in hospital suffering from stabbing injuries. Doctors are fighting to save his life. If you recognise one of these suspects on the video, please call your local police station." Yet, another case: "The man who raped the Indonesian female exchange student from the Free University was a black man. If you recognise one of these suspects on the video, please call your local police station."


In "Opsporing verzocht" (Detection Request ), the crime investigation program of Dutch radio and Public television broadcaster, AVROTROS, cooperates very closly with the Dutch police. During every broadcast you see dozens of police officers working and collaborating with the "Opsporing verzocht" (Detection Request ) tv host, receiving calls, chat messages, Facebook chat messages, e-mails about probably suspects, suspicious developments, people who saw elements of a crime they saw on television. For instance a person running away, a car, scooter, motor bike, van or SUV driving by in spead or just with a a suspiciously low speed just befor the crime happened. With information of numners plates, the looks of the purpatrators, the cloothes they wore, the type of shoes they wore, and the type of car they drove and the color of the car lead to leads to the purpertators and sometimes arrest. Some people recognise neighbours or people from a street a few hundred meters from their home or just annoying streetthugs from their neighbourhood. These people call the police and a police patrol goes to that street in that particular neighborhood and often arrests suspects.



Some of these criminals if the crime is seriously enough are on the list with photo's you reacted on Bo. The name the Dutch police didn't want to give a nationality too sounds, Eastern-European, Romanian to me. See, I am less political correct.

The last case: ""The group attack in Eindhoven on in the night of saturday to sunday on the 2 young men who wanted to go home after a night out was very severe. The extreme violence alarmed the Eindhoven police and the police contacted Belgian police and the police of other Dutch cities due to the severe nature of the violent abuse of the 2 young men. One men remains in serious condition. The man was kicked and beaten all over his body and in and on his head. The purpetrators were 5 tall native European loooking men, with blue eyes and blond hair, who spoke standard Dutch and one young adolescent man with North-African looks. If you recognise one of these suspects on the video, please call your local police station." (You see the video of this last case under here)




This seemingly nice young men from Belgium (4 guys) and the Netherlands (3 guys) ruined the life of one young men whom only crime was that he went out and was in the wrong time in the wrong place.

Good such programmes exist. I hope they contribute to successful investigations.

Interesting that Moroccan accent is reported as a hint. I didn`t realise that all Arab countries may speak Arabic with different accents. Just like various Eastern European nations who use Russian as their first language. But if anybody asked me to see the difference between Russian spoken by a Belarussian, Ukrainian or Armenian people, I would be at a loss.

Europeans complain about exotic immigrants who commit crimes. But local native European thugs are no less dangerous.

You are absolutely right Bonobo. This is exactly what I keep saying in Arnhem too to native Dutch compatriots who do not always like my words. In my life in the Netherlands I had more troubles with local native European thugs who were really dangerous. I have bad experiences with both native Dutch thugs and migrant thugs. With Moroccan accent, they mean Berber North African. You have both berbers speaking Moroccans in the Netherlands (the mayority) and Arabic speaking Moroccans (a minority). Due to their Islamic faith most Moroccans though know some Arabic. For non Moroccans it is hard to distinguish between Berber (Amazigh) and Arabic languages.

But we do have heavy foreign migrant crime over here in the Netherlands Bonobo.

Dutch crime groups

Indigenous organized crime based in some of The Netherlands' major cities, mainly Amsterdam and The Hague, mostly has origins in the traditional working-class quarters. Simon (Sam) Klepper (Amsterdam, 29 april 1960 – aldaar, 10 oktober 2000) was a Dutch criminal and victim of a liquidation.

Another type of indigenous organized crime is mainly based in the Flemish regions bordering the Netherlands, mainly located in the provinces of Limburg and Antwerp. The region is known to be one of the most important production areas for synthetic drugs such as ecstasy. It is home to organized criminal gangs active in the production, transport and distribution of synthetic narcotics and marihuana, as well as in the importation of hashish and cocaine, controlled by both local Flemish and Dutch criminal entrepreneurs.

Moroccan crime groups



Out of the Netherlands' substantial Moroccan community also grew criminal gangs mostly involved in the trafficking of marihuana. This is due to the ties of some families to their area of origin, the Rif, which is a known hub of marihuana/hashish cultivating. Certain criminals have also progressed to the trafficking of cocaine. Armed robbery and prostitution are known activities of the Dutch Moroccan groups as well.



Moluccan Kajahatan



The word kejahatan is Indonesian for 'committing crime' and has since become a synonym for Moluccan organized crime. Due to the Netherlands' large Moluccan Ambonese community kejahatan groups also exist in the Netherlands. Dutch Ambonese gangsters are involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, extortion and drug trafficking, especially the growing and illegally distributing of marihuana. An alleged criminal gang of Ambonese origin is Satudarah, a known one-percenter motorcycle club. Ambonese gangsters have traditionally also assisted other criminal enterprises. Incidents with the so-called Tattoo killers, a Moluccan/Ambonese gang specialised in contract killing, have also been major news in the Dutch criminal underworld in recent years.



Afro-Dutch crime groups


The Surinamese-Dutch criminal from Amsterdam, Marchano P., was killed by bullets in Suriname in March 2015.

Criminal groups consisting of descendants of Afro-Surinamese and Afro-Curaçaoan immigrants exist in major cities in the Netherlands. While some of said groups are involved in petty crimes, other Afro-Dutch crime groups have been responsible for the more sophisticated trafficking of cocaine. Since both Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles are known transit zones for the drug trafficking from Colombia, Curaçaoan and Surinamese crime groups based in the Netherlands have also formed alliances with said Colombian groups and have committed contract killings for them. Prostitution, hijacking and ripdeals are known activities of Afro-Surinamese and Afro-Curaçaoan groups.

Gang wars over turf have appeared from time to time. The Amsterdam district Bijlmermeer for instance has been the scene of violence between two of its biggest gangs, the Hopi Boys and the Kloekhorststraat Gang. Aside from these Netherlands-originated groups, gangs that originated in the Caribbean have also been able to set up shop in the Netherlands. The No Limit Soldiers gang, which originated in Curaçao, for instance now has bases in cities such as Rotterdam, where they're involved in gang violence and organized crime.

Crips in the Netherlands



The Netherlands is the only country in Europe where the Crips have a significant presence.[citation needed] In the major cities of Den Haag, Rotterdam and Amsterdam Crip-gangs were formed in the 80's. There are many Crip-gangs in the Netherlands but only 12 of them are regarded as a serious criminal organization. The 12 criminal gangs are mostly composed of older adolescent males (in contrast to the majority of the street gangs which are composed of youths) who are involved in organized crime such as drug trafficking, arms trafficking, prostitution, contract killing and extortion. The groups are mainly composed of Dutch Antilleans (mainly Afro-Curaçaoans) and Afro-Surinamese people.



Criminal groups concerning the Penose

The penose concerns organized criminal groups with ties to the country of the Netherlands itself. Due to immigration there are strong Turkish, Chinese, Yugoslav, Russian, Albanian and Italian communities in the Netherlands. Criminal outfits such as the Turkish mafia, Triads, Serbian mafia, Russian mafia, Albanian mafia, and the 'Ndrangheta are not regarded as a part of the traditional Penose (native Dutch organised crime groups), although they're an active part of the Dutch criminal underworld nonetheless. The reason why Surinamese, Antillean, Moroccan and Ambonese groups are considered to be a part of the Penose is because their criminal groups were formed and based in the Netherlands, whereas the Turkish or Serb gangs are part of a criminal group based in their home country.

Before being extradited, Van Hout and Holleeder stayed for more than three years in France, first on the run, then in prison, and then, awaiting a change of the extradition treaty, under house arrest, and finally in prison again. Meijer escaped and lived in Paraguay for years, until he was discovered by Peter R. de Vries and imprisoned there. In 2003, Meijer halted resisting his extradition to the Netherlands, and was transferred to a Dutch prison to serve the last part of his term.
