Isn`t it a paradox? One of the most religious country in Europe has such a problem with simple reproduction that next generations are seriously endangered. If the birth rate remains so low as now, Poles will have disappeared as a nation by the end of the century.
Demonstrators call for 'pro life' policies 27.05.2013 08:14 This Sunday saw 107 Marches for Life and Family held in many cities around Poland, including Warsaw, Krakow and Łódź.

The marches were held under the slogan “Family is our direction” with organisers attracting attention to the demographic deficit the country is experiencing, with a declining number of couples deciding to have children.
Last year saw around 50 similar demonstrations in Poland.
According to Anna Borkowska-Kniołek from the organiser's Warsaw office, Poland is already at the bottom of the world list of countries as far as the number of children being born is concerned.
“In forty years' time the country’s population will shrink by as many as two million people. On top of that, if we do not act now in thirty to forty years we can expect a major economic crisis,” she told Polish Radio.
The participants of the pro-life and pro-family march in Warsaw also collected signatures in support of the European Civic Initiative for the protection of human life

The main problem is Poles think that raising children requires too big an effort, not only financial. Some reasons as I see them: 1. The state imposes high VAT on children stuff such as clothes etc. 2. Local councils got rid of many costly kindergartens or creches and in result each year parents battle for places in those institutions, with about 20% turned down. 3. The cost of schoolbooks for each stage of education is covered by parents and these can be quite high expense. 4. Some Poles simply earn too little money to afford more than one kid. 5. Benefits for kids are low. etc. Simply speaking, Poles think the state should take over some expenses but Poland is too poor to satisfy all demands. But politicians have already noticed the problem. President Komorowski fronts 'pro-family' programme 27.05.2013 14:09 President Bronislaw Komorowski is fronting a newly-prepared programme aimed at encouraging Poles to build families in the face of a dramatic demographic deficit in Poland.
“The situation has been bad for many years and now is the last chance to take effective action,” Komorowski said while in Bytom, southern Poland on Sunday.
The programme has been prepared by Irena Woycicka, a former deputy minister of labour (1991-94) who currently serves in the president's office.
Figures prepared by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) indicate that by 2030, there will only be two Polish workers to each pensioner – currently there are four to each pensioner.
Anxiety over the demographic drop prompted Prime Minister Donald Tusk's centre-right government to raise the age of retirement to 67 for both sexes in a controversial 2012 amendment.
Komorowski is set to lead consultations about the new programme, named 'A good atmosphere for families', with leaders of Poland's parliamentary clubs, employers and social affairs groups.
Woycicka's programme includes some 44 recommendations on creating more conducive circumstances for would be parents.
Among the proposals is a potential overhaul of the tax system, creating a tax-free amount for parents in relation to the number of children that a family has.
This would replace the current system of child allowance, which is also calculated according to the number of children.
Other proposals include the so-called 'cards for large families' concept. This would see reductions in fees for public services for large families. Likewise, a nationwide system could be introduced that would allow for a network of flats to be rented at moderate, controlled prices for big families.

Growing number of Poles want to have 2+ children February 24, 2016
The number of Poles deciding to have the second and the third child is on the rise, but the number deciding to have the first child is dropping, Central Statistics Office (GUS) data show.
Data show that the number of women having one child dropped to 47.4% in 2014 from 51.1% in 2006.
The percentage of those who choose to have two children increased to 37.5% from 32.7% and those who decide on the third child grew to 10.5% from 9.9% in 2010.
If the fertility patterns settle at the level recorded in 2008, the number of women not having a child at all may exceed 30% in the years to come, up from 17% at present and from 8% among women born shortly after the World War II.

I'm not clear on what this wording is saying... So this is a glimmer of hope for the continuation of the Polish nationality. [/i][/quote] And I'm sure Poland is not the only European nation heading down this path to demographic suicide...

Cost of raising children in Poland grows 02.06.2017 08:31 Raising a child in Poland from birth to the age of 18 costs up to PLN 200,000 (EUR 48,000) – up by five percent in two years – the Adam Smith Centre think-tank has said.
In a report released on Children's Day, marked on 1 June, the think-tank said raising a second child costs 80 percent more.
The head of the Adam Smith Centre, Andrzej Sadowski, said the rising cost of living is pushing up the cost of raising children.
Sadowski also said state-controlled prices, such as energy, were growing, while the quality of health care and education were sub-par.
“We are paying ever more for extra-curricular education and health care,” Sadowski added. (vb/pk)

In fact, the Pentagon has already warned our team that by 2020, the planet’s “carrying capacity” will be so drastically compromised that they are already preparing military defense systems for the coming “all-out wars over food, water, and energy supplies.”

Europe has been committing demographic suicide with falling birthrates for quite a while now, and I've recently read that Japan is now on the same path. ...and they believe the Pentagon...??

I don't want to appear unpatriotic...because I'm not, but they are the folks who had the President and the U.S. people convinced in 2003 that Saddam Hussein had a large cache of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq...which were never found upon invasion...

A very good article - short but informative - about reasons for few kids born in Poland. They show that we are still a backward country - economically and mentally. businessinsider.com.pl/finanse/makroekonomia/dzietnosc-a-program-500-plus-w-polsce-badania/we7ntxk- direct kid benefits are not enough - too many young Poles still live with parents - main reason is low access to cheap apartments - unstable jobs - short-term contracts don`t provide stability - low flexibility of working hours - low access to cheap creches - most are privately owned, thus expensive However, those economic factors are not as important as one main cultural factor - Polesess expect more engagement on the part of husbands and fathers of their kids. When a father is involved in sharing home duties and kid care, a woman often decides to have more children than one. So, dear Polish males, think twice before you sit on the sofa before the TV with a can of beer in hand and watch passively how your poor wives do everything around you, kids and home.

So, dear Polish males, think twice before you sit on the sofa before the TV with a can of beer in hand and watch passively how your poor wives do everything around you, kids and home. This is not just a Polish problem. What you have described here sounds very familiar to me. Thankfully, things are changing here, and the young men are beginning to step up and contribute to care of the children and perform household tasks, but others merely "think" they are contributing and like to claim they are, but aren't really.

but others merely "think" they are contributing and like to claim they are, but aren't really. They claim thy maintain the family and that`s a sufficient excuse for doing nothing at home. I also maintain my family coz my wife hasn`t worked for over 20 years now but today I have just cleaned the toilet and repaired the flushing system which leaked. hahahaham
