Hi folks, It's been a while since I have been on board and it is good to see this board working.
Since I live in New England and am only 40 minutes from the coast, I have often spent time there and enjoyed the cuisine of the New Hampshire and Maine coast. They have a very thriving seafood industry and it is delicious, to say the least.
Now my ancestry is from Cwiklin and they are farmers with an orchard. But, it is not to distant to Gdansk and the coastal environment. My parents always loved seafood and we went fishing quite often in Long Island Sound.
However I do not see or hear much about coastal life and cuisine in Poland. What would be the significance of this?

I can't answer your question, but I will comment that my grandfather immigrated from Poland and settled in Boston's North End. When my father was a boy, the two of them would go clamming in Boston Harbor (can you imagine doing that nowadays??!!)and also did a lot of salt water fishing. My father obviously inherited a love of seafood from my grandfather which continued his entire life, and he passed that love on to my brother and I. Fortunately, I live within fifteen miles or so of the coast so I have easy access to the really fresh stuff. Bonobo does occasionally mention Polish seafood in his food threads, so maybe he will answer your question! Jeanne

Coastal life and cuisine is based on natural resources of the Baltic Sea which is very insignificant in comparison to other seas, let alone oceans. There are lakes as big as the Baltic. In result, the variety of species and their sizes in the Baltic cannot compete with those in other parts of the world, warmer or saltier. Marine fishing culture is still cherished in coastal regions but is gradually constrained by EU regulations which aim to prevent overfishing. Cod is one of sensitive species in the Baltic
