Destruction of UPA monuments in Poland

Bandera lovers in Ukraine are erecting monuments in honour of their idol and its murderous organisation - UPA. They slaughtered hundreds of thousands of innocent Poles during World War 2. Today they appear to suffer from a sort of amnesia - they glorify UPA as patriots who fought for independence.

Ukrainian President was backed by the Polish government and parliament when Ukrainians went through difficult times during Maidan Revolution It turned out Poles supported a Bandera lover. This is so sick that I cannot think of other words than What a sonofthebitch.

I share your view. I am not fond of Ukrainian Nazi's, Neo-Nazi's and Ultra-Nationalists in the past. I think it is a dangerous force until today. And I am worried for the Polish minority in Western-Ukraine. Battle hardened Ukrainian Ultra-nationalists who came back from the East-Ukrainian front (war with the Russian separatists and Russian army units there) will cause troubles for Poles, Russians, ethnic Hungarians, Moldovians and jews over there. I am sure these extremists will also be responsible for war crimes against Russian civilians in Eastern-Ukraine. So, when these thugs will return it will be hard to control them, disciplin them and keep them quiet for the Ukrainian authorities.

Every war and civil war is brutal, vicious, mean and bad for civilians and soldiers alike. People get killed, wounded, maimed and often people are tortured pr abused if they fall in the wrong hands. I am really worried on the long term about the situation in Ukraine and what it will mean for the Polish-Ukrainian relations. They have a troubled past together. There are friendly relations today, but fact stays that Poles are Western-Slav Roman Catholic people and Ukrainians are Eastern-Slav Orthodox christian people. Ukraine has had a larger Russian influence due to the Czarist and Sovjet era's and Poland has more Western, Czech (Bohemian), Italian, Austrian, German, French and English/American influence. The Pan-Slavic movement failed, because the Poles didn't feel for it. They had strong connections with the Hungarians (Non-Slavic), Italians (Rome/The Vatican) and again the French, British, Austrians and Germans. The Poles are independent and yet have good and strong ties with the West. That pisses the Russians and maybe also the Ukrainians off.

The Poles shouldn't forget their past, but in the same time should look at the present day situation. Fact is that there are thousands of Ukrainian workers in Poland like their are thousands of Polish workers in Western-Europe. Warsaw today is being built by the Ukrainians (I mean the construction workers who built new buildings, roads, bridges and viaducts in Warsaw today). I hope that peace and prosperity can be maintained in Central-Europe.

A UPA monument was damaged in the village of Mołodycze.  One plaque which paid tribute to fallen UPA soldiers was broken. The other plaque about local villagers who perished after WW2 was untouched.

In case of controvercial monuments, the act of removal should be based on a legal decision taken by the court or local authorities. Private destruction isn`t the best solution.

That`s what happened today. An illegal tomb to UPA soldiers was legally removed from the cemetery in Hruszowice.
