In Poland it is called koncert życzeń - the concert of wishes. What do you want to read or see in this site? Don`t be shy to submit requests - you ask, you got it!

Part of the fun is being surprised by what ideas your creative brain comes up with! My brain is concentrated on things I like most about Poland: history, traditions, everyday lifestyle, vegetation, architecture, funny things, unusual things, human and animal specimen, economy and a few others. I don`t write too much about UFO, it is not my genre. But all what I write about is done in a pretty superficial way without going into much detail because too much depth is boring to me, I am not able to focus on one thing for too long, that`s typical of my sign. So, in this thread I am asking you to ask me about particulars to things we discuss in the forum.

I don't like long, involved posts...I don't have the patience to read through them, and I hate spending a lot of time staring at the computer screen to do so. Too much computer interferes with my sleep!

Dear Bonobo, I see some similarities and some differences. Yesterday I had a dinner with an old friend. Like me he had been obsessed with the Holocaust (Shoa) and the Second World War, read Hanah Arendt and visited several concentrationcamps under whom Auschwitz and Maydanek (Konzentrationslager and Vernichtungslager Lublin). Like me through life he liberated himself of the dark influence of the heritage of the Holocaust. Slowly it fades away, but it's presence in the distance is clear in our European reality. We learned a lesson, we could give it a place and we move on with our lives. My brain is concentrated on things I like most about the Netherlands, Poland, the world and especially today: history, art history, fine art, photography (both art photography and photojournalism) and documentaries/film (movies), architecture, infrasrtructure, city scapes, rural landscapes, people in all shapes and colors (every ethnicity and religion), subcultures of the 20th century (I came from an era in the late 20th century of the youth subcultures related to pop music and social class) which stayed and transformed to 21th century subcultures, quality media (a particular fondness of foreign newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, The Economist and for instance Foreign Affairs, but also the Dutch newspapers, magazines and radio and tv ofcourse), philosophy and images, images. The fact that I had history and art education has a lot to do with that, plus coming from a family in which nature, history, culture and languages (the foreign languages French, English and German) were considered important, and in which there was a strong focus on England (BBC, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare and etc.) and France (the French chanal TV5 is one of my parents favorite chanals). The American thing or connection is something of my own, my own generation, because my parents with their Dutch-British-French (Belgian) orientation have no particular interest in American movies, culture, music or people (except the American family). I like large cities, metropoles, prefer them above hamlets, villages, provincial towns or small cities. I like their international cosmopolitan intellectual climate in the sense of culture, press, media, contemporary art, politics, economy, dynamics, and connection with other places via airports, planes, trains, internet and etc. The first 20 years of my life have proven that I am not fit for provincial life. I don't have the mentality of a local rooted farmer, fisherman, civil servant or businessman. These people are fine and excellent. Maybe my global family and genes have to do with that? Mother moved from Poland to the Netherlands, sister moved from the Netherlands to South-Africa, aunt (my mothers sister) moved from Warsaw to Milwaukee. My father found it hard after two years in military service in Indonesia (1948-1950) to adapt in the very boring fifties in the Netherlands. He is a guy who drew and painted drawings, sketches, paintings, watercolors (gouaches and Acquarels) all his life. As a kid I spend a lot of my time with my nose in the books, reading, watching, making notes, especially my fathers large multi volume Dutch Winkler Prins Encyclopedia of 1952. But also my own 20 volumes large Compact encyclopedia and my youth encyclopedia with great black and white and color images (photo's, graphics, and reproductions of drawings and paintings). I used to cut old newspapers and magazines into pieces and collected beautiful images out of that. In a strange move I gave my Polish cousin a collection of these Western images. I don't know if she appreciated that or if it was a very strange move and gift? I don't have a lot with Fiction like science fiction, or artificial things like UFO's, fables, legends, myths, fairy tales, epic, manga, fiction (theme) films, video games, but I liked Star Trek, Star Wars and Karl May's and Jules Verne's novels. Are you not able to focus on one thing for too long, due to your job, family and limited time or due to your character and personality Bo? I think you have created quite some quintessence and dedication and effort into showing Poland in various ways. Why is to much depth boring to you? But all what I write about is done in a pretty superficial way without going into much detail because too much depth is boring to me, I am not able to focus on one thing for too Every day I am asking myself why are you participating in these two Polish Culture Forums. I can't share it with Dutch friends, colleages and family who do not have a connection to Poland. Family members who do have a connection to Poland don't need a Polish Forum. They are one of my Polish sources. I am active and connected to these Forums due to the Polish and Polish diaspora people who engage in these Forums. I tell you the good topics, opinions and thus threads and replies (reactions) of Bonobo, Jeanne, Jaga, Karl, Kaima, Eric and Ludwik, Tufta, Bunjo and Adam kept me going back to the Forums and keep me connected. I hope I can add some quality content to it (that). Sometimes it is enough for me to follow a conversation, exchange of content and the sense of humor between Jeanne and Bo to keep me going. Another time there are new images about Poland new info, facts or news about Poland which I like. I realise that I live in a West-European reality, and that the Poles I meet her occasionaly also live in the same West-European reality, because they work, study and live here. Interesting for me is how Poles live, and there you have the Bonobo reports, Polish Radio and the Voice of Warsaw. And occasionally Jaga's connections with Polish family members and her reports of the Polish press. Cheers, Pieter P.S.- Sorry if this post is to long and boring. I like to go into detail if I can. Details can be a light to a large topic which is to complicated to be understood without some background information or knowledge about the subject. It is the art in writing, but also in drawing, painting and taking images to leave things out and go into the essence of the subject!

Or I imagine I am in a museum and look at a giant painting which I can contemplate for hours. What can I say more? Nothing. Hats off.

I don't know if she appreciated that or if it was a very strange move and gift? Reminds me of my notebook with cut-out pictures which I kept in the last year of primary school. It was a thick notebook where I used to glue a few pics onto each page, which made it even thicker. Initially, I did it for the art class in school (the teacher told us to show art: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics) but later it turned into a hobby which improved my mood in communist times because looking through the colourful notebook allowed me to forget about the dominating grey shade of those times. PS. I had the best collection of pictures for which I received a special praise, other students put one picture per page, pathetic. No, your gift wasn`t strange and I can only regret it wasn`t sent to me.

I think you have created quite some quintessence and dedication and effort into showing Poland in various ways. Why is to much depth boring to you? It is purely due to character and changeable moods, I am like a butterfly which has to visit a lot of flowers each day to survive. If I had to focus on one flower solely, I would certainly die.
