If you could have anything you wanted for Christmas, what would it be? Would it be something only for you, or the family? Would it be something that cost much money? What would it be? And don't anyone say world peace, since you can not buy that.

Where do you buy this? It is not in any stores around here. You must as a whole world do this, and it will never happen.

So you don't have a good answer? Think it over, and give it a try. Also, the rest of you give us your input.

Mike this was a very good answer if you give it a liitle of thought. Now, your turn - what would you like to get as a present. But be frank!

O.K. here goes, I did not want to say anything yet, but, today, I and my wife, and daughter and grandson, just got home for the V.A. hospital after taking more test. I was told, I may need a major surgery within three to five weeks, on my pancreas. In some of the test, I took a few weeks ago, they found a nodule, that must be removed, and could be cancer. So what I want, after this surgery, that will take over six hours, and be in the hospital for no less than a few weeks, is to come home and be with my family and friends for Christmas. Now I said it, and you all know. But I did not do this for you all to feel sorry for me, but, as you know, I believe in the power of prayer, so if you can, this could help me. I know I am old, but I am not ready to leave, and miss so much, and leave my wife, she is not ready for this either.

I believe in the power of prayer, so if you can, this could help me. I will say prayers for you. As Tufta said: you must be strong now. Remember: the guys who have a powerful grip on this life, have also a power to conquer the illness. If you give up, you will lose. So, don`t give up and be an optimist. I hope you will be able to use the Internet while at hospital.

To all,
Thank you all for thinking of me. I now find it very hard to post anything, with or without humor, now, since my mind is not here. I know being I am going to a Veterans Hospital, I will again, get the best care that money can buy, and also, the Doctor who would do the surgery is, I am told, the best in this surgery, in all the U.S.A. But I am prepared, if God wants me, more than all others, I will be ready. I won't have to say, I wish I did this, or that, because I did them. The only thing left on my list is sky driving with my son, and after this thing is gone, next summer, I will do that also. The only worry I have is what will become of my wife, if I did not make it. She can't make it herself, but our children will need to step in, if need be. I still like reading all the post, on all topics, and hope to soon again, be able to post my remarks, but remember I am watching you all.

You must as a whole world do this, and it will never happen. Mike It is a defeatist mentality. I choose to not succumb to it. How do we work towards peace in this world that we share? We start with a good, honest look at ourselves and our lives, then we reach out to others around us. We show kindness, compassion, caring, and tolerance for each other. If everyone tried today to interact peacefully with just one other person that they had previously struggled with...well, imagine what a start that would be.

And in spite of our differences and past conflicts, you know that the ten or so of us who will read this thread will have you in our thoughts and prayers, giving you our strength and support during this difficult time. That is a most powerful gift, and one that is not so hard to give, does not cost money, and is not in limited supply. You have a very strong spirit, Mike. Use that strength now, and remember that you have ours to add to it.

Mike, I am truly sorry I didn't read this thread sooner. I am sure your strong spirit and faith will carry you through this. Prayer does wonderful things, and you have my prayers along with the others here. Having a close family and faith in your Doctor and hospital care also helps. I know you have this, so it looks like everything is on your side for a successful recovery! Mary

Monday the 8th. my wife and daughter take me into Hines Veterans Hospital for a Upper Endoscopy and a Upper Endoscopic Ultrasound, and a Biopsy if they can, and from this they will know when, how soon I will need my surgery. This test, I will be out, and will take around four hours for the full thing, I am told, and I can't drive or lift anything for twenty fours hours after. I just want to get the whole thing over as fast as I can, and if I can, and be home for Christmas, after my stay, of one or two weeks in the hospital. At the Veterans Hospital I will get the best care you can get for any price.

Thank you all,
After the 73 mile drive, with my wife, daughter, and grandson, and after a hour wait, they told us, everything would have to be moved to Friday the 12th. since the doctor could not make it in today, so we will see, on Friday. The wait drives me nuts, let's get it over with.

I don't want to spend Christmas in the hospital. But I have to do what they want, that is best for me. I just wish this was all over, the wait is very hard, no knowing.

On Friday they did the Endoscope, but were unable to do to blockage, the Ultrasound or a Biopsy either, so now I must wait until the Surgery is set up, and what must be done. My insides are somewhat sore now, but I know in time this will go away. I want to thank all who have said prayers for me. The way I feel today, I don't care what the outcome is. I am very down.

You are dealing with a difficult situation during a time of year when you want to be having fun and enjoying the season. Please don't make it harder for yourself by feeling like you don't have the right to think that the situation stinks, because that usually only makes it worse. Go ahead and feel sad or angry or whatever it is you need to feel. If you let some of that out, it might help you to recharge your spirits.

It is hard to think of upcoming Christmas, when you don't even know if you want to fight and go on. I want to shake this, but it is hard. I do keep it to myself, the only ones other than I know, what I feel, are this group. Thank you all for being there for me.

Most of our children, and grandchildren are in, even our son from South Carolina, and his new wife, one daughter and grand daughter to arrive later today, so most everything is being done, and I want to take the chance to WISH ALL OF YOU A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, from all of us, and a update. The surgeon called and said, the last test would be after Christmas, and yes, I will have the surgery, even if the test does not come back cancer, they need do some correction on the inside. Thank you all who have wished me well with this, and I hope it never hits your family.
