The square in Katowice is named after certain communist activist but local residents consider him primarily a Silesian who contributed to the development of the region and view the central government`s decision as an infringement of their rights. More protests in Silesia. Inhabitants of Zabrze clearly don`t like it when the central government dictates them what to do. They fear the monument to Pstrowski will be taken down as a symbol of communist ideology. Pstrowski was honoured as the most efficient miner in stalinist times. When he died, communists made him a "saint" for their ideology.

PiS government declared all communist remnants must be removed from Polish streets. Citizens of Gliwice protest against the removal of the Soviet-made tank monument which has been standing there for nearly 70 years. They claim it is the tank used by Polish soldiers who fought against Germans alongside Soviets who had turned from enemies into allies in 1941. Another tank monument`s fate is being decided in Drawsko. The monument has been stripped of Soviet soldier figures and plaques gloryfying the Red Army. Instead, the town council installed plaques about tanks and claim the monument is purely technical, not ideological.

Old people in Legnica had tears in their eyes watching a 1950s monument taken down. Others rejoiced. Local activists put the Monument to National Purity on the spot. The police started an investigation.

They claim it is the tank used by Polish soldiers who fought against Germans alongside Soviets who had turned from enemies into allies in 1941. The law also applies to street names which must be changed if they glorify communism. The square in Katowice is named after certain communist activist but local residents consider him primarily a Silesian who contributed to the development of the region and view the central government`s decision as an infringement of their rights. Others don`t care about local patriotism, they simply don`t want The Kaczyńskis Square. Finally, Warsaw Administrative Court declared that any forced changes in the city streets are illegal because to do it, the PiS governor must first prove in court that the suspicious street name holder propagated communism. The fact that someone was a leftist activist is not enough. A nice voice of reason in this madness - it is up to residents to choose their street names, not PiS nominated apparatchik. If they want to live in People`s Army Street - it is their business. www.rp.pl/Ustroj-i-kompetencje/305289942-Dekomunizacja-w-stolicy-moze-sie-nie-udac---po-wyrokach-WSA.html

You know this monument in Rzeszów from another thread about controvercial monuments. It has always been viewed with amusement as it resembles certain part of a body . But over the years, residents got used to it and treat it as their local landmark: Unfortunately, the monument is dedicated to Revolutionary Struggle. As such, it must be knocked down according to PiS law. As Rzeszów is a big city, crowds came to protest

In Kraśnik local "conservatives" already protested against the demolition of the Underground Soldier monument in 2018. Today it is still standing but they built a public toilet next to it. Now it looks as if the statue was standing on the toilet.
