The last time when I killed a spider was in my childhood, decades ago, out of sheer fear and disgust. Fortunately, as an adult I developed a friendly approach to those fascinating creatures and have always taught my students or kids to respect spiders.
I hope you have a similar attitude.

Why should we not kill spiders?
Even if you are not one of the people who are terrified of spiders, you probably have reached for a newspaper or a slipper more than once to get rid of a spider forever. Don't do that anymore, because not only are spiders useful, but they have a magical meaning in many cultures.

American entomologist Matt Bertone examined 50 different homes in North Carolina. He did not find one in which there would be no spider, especially a lot of living in the basement. The truth is that spiders live around us, although they do not want our company at all.
Spiders feed on insects such as flies and mosquitoes, and if only because of this, they perform very useful functions. Spiders living in fields and gardens eat pests from our plants.
Studies on spiders have shown that their venom can be used as a painkiller, and may be helpful in treating strokes and muscular dystrophy. It can also be used as an antidote against the bites of poisonous spiders!
It is true that almost every spider is poisonous, but in most of them the venom is so weak that it cannot harm us. Also, spider bites are extremely rare. There are several types of spiders that should be avoided, such as black widows and hermit crabs, but they do not exist in Poland. And remember, spiders fear you more than you fear them.
So if you happen to see a spider in a house, don't kill it. Take a piece of paper, use the brush and toss it outside. According to many beliefs, killing a spider is unlucky because the spider is unique and worshiped by many cultures.
The spider has always been a symbol of mystery, power and growth. The way he weaves his spider web shows that just as he builds his web, we are able to build our lives. So when you meet a spider on its cobweb, now is a good time to ask yourself a fundamental question - is what I am building good? Am I making the right choices or is the thread in my life that I am weaving just what I would like?
The spider also symbolizes infinity, most often it has four pairs of eyes and four pairs of legs. His body resembles an eight. Meanwhile, the inverted figure eight is a symbol of infinity. The spider is also associated with cycles, the passage of time, and evolution.
Hindus associate it with the term Maja, which means that "there are no limits". This term describes the natural play of appearances, and we are reminded that things are not always what they seem.
For Indians, a spider (personalized like a grandmother) is a teacher and defender of wisdom. It is thanks to the spider that dream catchers were created to protect us from nightmares. Here is an old Indian legend about a wise grandma and a spider:
Once upon a time there was an old woman named Nokomis who was watching a spider quietly weaving a web near her bed. One day my grandmother's grandson, Keegwa, entered the room and saw a spider. He grabbed a shoe and ran to kill him, to which Grandma shouted "no Keegwa", "don't hurt him" and the grandson asked, "Nokomis, why are you protecting the spider?" The old woman didn't say a word, but looked at him with a smile. When the boy left, the spider approached Nokomis and thanked him very much for saving his life. The spider said, "You've seen me work on my work of art for a long time, weaving my web. You admire my work like no other human being. Because you saved my life, I will give you a great gift."
One night, when the moon became very bright, a spider appeared in a magical silver glow. He began to weave a net. "Watch me do it and learn as each of these threads will be used to catch bad dreams. Only good dreams will be able to pass through these holes. Use your web so that only good dreams come to you. Bad dreams will be entangled. in the material I have woven for you. " This is how the first dreamcatcher made for Nokomis by a spider was born.
