Ukraine`s heroic defense is primarily focused on retaining its independence. However, Ukrainians are also fighting for Poland and Europe, because they are thwarting Russian attempt to recreate the old Soviet Union which used to be a threat to Europe and the West for decades in the previous century. When Russia manages to take control of Ukraine, it will become unstoppable in its mad imperial need to conquer more territory. Then, the next countries targeted by aggressors will be the Baltics and Poland.
Therefore, Europeans and the West must do their best to help Ukraine defend itself.
