:'(Sorry if this is a sad thread and not Polish but i feel it is important to discuss this as one day we could all suffer.I am sure you will all be aware of the tragic deaths of 2 young children on the holiday resort of Corfu October 2006 from carbon monoxide poisoning. In my occupation i have to be an expert in not letting this happen, and as such i have to be trained certified every 5 years by a governing body called C.O.R.G.I. I receive a monthly magazine which i have just received today it reports that 2 Thomas Cook employees are to face trial along with the hotel manager and the maintenance contractor.Somebody is to blame is it the hotel? the contractor?Thomas? If this had happened in the UK then the person who would be to blame would be the gas engineer who said the appliance was safe.If this was me in the UK then i would get 2 in jail years for manslaughter.Iam concerned for the 2 T/C employees they are not corgi registered so cannot be tried for breakink UK rules that they dont possess and how can Greece prosecute on laws that they dont govern on.Iam going to take this matter up further. If you access the corgi web site my number is211915

Someone needs to pay for this, and pay big, money, and time in jail. But most of the time they walk away from it, with just a fine. A fine, will not bring back the poor children. Stay on top of it, and fill us in, please.

Such accidents happen in Poland too. Every week there is a report about someone dying in the bath or falling into eternal sleep next to a coal heater. Apartment houses receive checks of gas installations twice in a year. Admins are responsible for this.
However, in private houses with old installations people don`t care about the danger and tragedies take place.
There used to be more in the past. I still remember, being a kid, my mother warning us not to lock the bathroom door in case of emergency.

In the UK we have according to C.O.R.G.I 50 deaths per year from CO poising due to incompetent gas engineers or as we call them cowboys. If i ever had a issue with migrant labour then this would be the one i would expect any gas fitter from anywhere in the world to be competent and to care and respect the trade he works in after all we have the power to kill someone due to our neglect something i could never do.

How many deaths due to incompetent residents who don`t care about their installations or alter them? And one important question: what percentage of British places have gas or furnace installations for heating water or the interior? In Poland almost all places have gas heaters for water and most old houses have furnaces too.

This is same in the UK as for the 50 geographically there are places worse in the country London and the Middle of UK.Also parts of Yorkshire have admitted that they would use a non registered gas fitter to save money, cash before safety these people fall foul of the law but could face prosecution if caught but are unlikely to.
