My contacts with crime.
In America in 1990, I was pickpocketed by a young black man while entering an electronics store. It was funny because I had only 10$ in the pocket, so I imagine the faces of the gang seeing the loot. They could even think that their partner took the rest of the money stolen from me. ;D ;D ;D ;D
About 15 years ago, I had my car, parked in the street then, burgled into twice. Thieves broke the side window to take a carton of juice lying on the seat or the radio. But the gang of teenage boys was caught and cars were safe since then.
13 years ago I was punched in the face by a drunk young man in the street. The attack was sudden and unjustified. I stopped the man from leaving the site and called the police. Later on he apologised in tears and his mother compensated my costs (pain, time) so I didn`t take him to court, but forgave and forgot.
None of the cases required the usage of firearm. Probably the last one could suffice in US to take out a gun but the attack was so surprising that I didn`t have any chance to avoid it or prevent it. Even if I had a gun I wouldn`t be able to use it.

When I was in college, someone stole a license plate off my car (which was registered in my parents' names) and then robbed a gas station with a stolen car bearing my license plate! My parents had to go to court and testify that the plate had been stolen. Other than that, the only thing that comes close to my being a victim of crime was when someone went through my husband's car one night when it was parked in our driveway...they took some coins and that's about it... Imagine...I live in America and this is all the crime that has touched my life!! But then again...I have a strong devotion to the guardian angels!

You were lucky it was an ordinary thief and not a herd of buffaloes going through your car.... How many are there?
