Hmm, 1000 years. Passed just like a month ;D
>>A millennium of Polish-German relations
Almost 800 works of art and documents are to be shown at an exhibition ‘Poland-Germany. 1000 Years’ which is to open in September 2011 at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, one of the most prestigious exhibition venues in Europe.
The exhibition is organized by the Royal Castle in Warsaw and the Martin-Gropius-Bau. The concept of the exhibition is the work of the Polish-German Programme Council.
Addressing a press conference in Warsaw, the Director of the Royal Castle, Professor Andrzej Rottermund, has described the forthcoming event as one of the biggest exhibition projects in many years. Curator Anda Rottenberg has said that it does not aim to present the entire history of Polish-German relations.
“No exhibition could do this,” she said, “and so our goal is to look at the history of Polish-German neighbourhood with a focus on the periods, events and personalities which have found their reflection in the arts and in documents.”
Much attention will be given to important historical processes which saw Polish and German people working together in such areas as the foundation of the towns. The traumatic impact of World War Two will also be highlighted.
The exhibits are to comprise some 250 paintings (including The Battle of Grunwald by Jan Matejko which depicts the victory of Polish and Lithuanian forces over the Teutonic Knights in 1410), 30 sculptures, 60 old prints, 80 manuscripts, as well as documents, crafts, photographs and books.
They works from Polish and European collections, including almost 100 museums, libraries and cultural institutions in Germany.
The exhibition is to last from 23 September 2011 till 9 January 2012. There are plans to move it to Kraków afterwards. Martin-Gropius-Bau attracts over half a million visitors a year. <<
