Prewar period, till 1939. A lullaby Sleep, sweetheart from a comedy Paul and Gaul, 1938.I am such a cool bastard from Warsaw Singer, 1934.
"Ladies and gentlemans, and now attraction of our evening! Our charming, home-made Mae West!"One of the best scenes of polish 1930's films: Eugeniusz Bodo (most popular polish actor) in woman clothes is singing a hit song "Sex appeal" in "Piêtro wy¿ej" (Upstairs) film from 1937. I am meeting her at 9 pm from a comedy One floor upstairs, 1937. Notice that how many pre-war film songs were performed by Eugeniusz Bodo. He died in Soviet Gulag camp. Eugeniusz Bodo (born Bohdan Eugène Junod; 1899 – 1943) was a film director, producer and one of the most popular Polish actors and comedians of the inter-war period. He starred in some of the most popular Polish film productions of the 1930s, including His Excellency, The Shop Assistant, Czy Lucyna to dziewczyna? and Pie¶niarz Warszawy. A skilled singer, he became one of the icons of Polish musical comedies of the time and a symbol of Polish commercial cinema.[1] Towards the end of that decade he also became a successful entrepreneur, a co-owner of a successful film studio, a café and a producers company. Arrested by the Soviets in the aftermath of the German and Soviet invasion of Poland, he perished in the Gulag. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugeniusz_Bodo

"Mabye you will be my princess" by Eugeniusz Bodo in "Pawe³ i Gawe³" film from 1938.
"O'key" by Eugeniusz Bodo in "Czy Lucyna to dziewczyna?" (Is Lucyna a girl?) film from 1934.

Famous song from Love manouvers, 1935
Let`s return to past years
Singing waltz from Mrs Minister dances, 1937
Habanita from the same film:
Another popular song, A day will come, from Sportsman against his will, 1939
There are so many of these pre-war film songs I have to handle them in wholesale, sorry. E.g.,:
Some`s career continued even in communist times:
etc etc. Let`s move to post-war period in the next post.

It is a soundtrack from "Czas Honoru" - "Days of honor", a TV series on WWII. It is amazing, true movie ,perfectly made = interesting also out-of-history context, just as 'a story'. Oh, I see. Unfortunately, I didn`t see it as I don`t watch TV. Only evening news twice or thrice a month. Postwar period Forbidden Songs was the first Polish film after WW2. And it was a musical film. Zakazane piosenki (Forbidden Songs) is a 1946 Polish musical film directed by Leonard Buczkowski. It was the first feature film to be created in Poland following the six years of World War II. The film, set during the German occupation of Warsaw during the war, tells the story of several inhabitants of the same tenement house.[1] Their stories are loosely tied together by a set of songs, both pre-war ballads popular during the war and war-time popular songs mocking German occupation (Siekiera, motyka). [..] However, as the farcical plot and all-familiar songs were mostly free of ideological subtexts, the film remained popular in the decades to come and some of its' songs re-emerged in slightly modified form during the 1980s martial law and struggle against the Communist rule.[3] The film remains well-known and popular even in modern Poland,[2] being screened by Polish public television channel on a regular basis.Whole The most popular song, a ridicule of Nazi occupation and its brutality The most beautiful and the saddest too, sung by a Jewish girl who escapes from the Ghetto to earn some money in Warsaw, based on traditional Jewish melody The funniest, about Polish food smugglers travelling on train to starving Warsaw Polish anthem

Bo, I remember you 'aversion' to TV. Went through it too but changed my mind when children grew up. TV used wisely does help with education and general knowledge about the world, does it not? Though internet pushes it to the margin. Anyway - I like it when whole family watches a good/wise film once weekly, together. Team-building, huh We try to always have such a film chosen. 'Czas honoru' was a hit. www.ceneo.pl/6427790

'Czas honoru' was a hit. Good. But I prefer to abstain from TV. The family team binding sessions take place when I show and read slide films. It is much bigger fun than TV. . polandsite.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sweetmemories&action=display&thread=2226But when my kids grow up, we might watch the series you recommend.

My husband doesn't dance like that, so what can he say? If I want to waltz, I want to waltz!! ;D I know Polish men would be elegant and dashing partners! (and I don't mean "dashing" like running fast...there's another meaning!)

Will you sing, too? You have to sing! I can learn to dance for you and sing too, as I can sing well, though a bit too loud so when I sing at school celebrations, they have to turn the volume down. Actually, I sing like Kiepura: I know Polish men would be elegant and dashing partners! (and I don't mean "dashing" like running fast...there's another meaning!)Eager!!!

This is probably off-topic because I have no idea if this comes from a Polish film or musical...but I happened upon several Polish Tangos, and I thought this would be a good one for Tufta:

Thank you Jeanne! It is only very slightly off-topic The singer - Hanka Ordonówna sang one of the greatest pre-war hits, so great that it became an evergreen and is often performed today. And that hit comes from a film

Another musical was made oin 1954. Adventure on Mariensztat (housing estate). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariensztat Stalinist communism had already taken a strong grip of Poland and thousands of Polish patriots had been executed or imprisoned by communist secret police. Yet, it was the first colour film in Poland. This first Polish color feature has more to offer than just a technical novelty. If you look past the socrealist background, which today is more an interesting testimony on a forgotten past than an annoyance, it is a wonderful romantic musical comedy, in the mood of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. This is no surprise, given that Ludwik Starski, the screenwriter and lyricist, (and father of Oscar-winning art director Allan Starski), already did a string of successful comedies before the war. The story is pretty compelx, but revolves around the main seduction and love plot involving Tadeusz Szmidt and Lidia Korsakowna. Tadeusz is a bricklayer in ruined post-war Warsaw (the feature is entirely shot on location), which is being actively rebuilt, and Lidia, a country girl with a singing talent, visits the capital with a folk music and dance ensemble. They meet in a qui-pro-quo scene, later dance, but need to separate before even knowing their names. A few months and peripeties later, after Lidia moves to the town and learns a construction job herself, they manage to find each other again. However, they still need to learn how to live together before envisaging a marriage...More www.imdb.com/title/tt0047373/A song : Adventure only in WarsawLyrics go like this: In the morning your girlish hands were mixing cement, in the evening your stunning floral dress amazes me etc A kiss at 2:30!! Incredible!!! The whole film is available on youtube: First part: etc
