There are various groups of people in Europe for whom Poland does count. One of them are hunters. The following post is of informative nature, without intention of popularising anything. Poland is a good destination for hunting trips. We still have a lot of forests and game in it compared to Western Europe. See the animals that can be hunted in Poland: www.pzllowex.com.pl/index_en.php?id=3aE.g., Wildboar (Sus scrofa) Wildboar can be found in whole areas of the country with exception of high mountains. The most numerous population exists in the West, however it is possible to meet largest individuals in central and eastern Poland. Trophies of Polish wildboars belong to biggest in Europe. See prices: www.hubertus-jagdreisen.de/europa/polen_masuren.htmShooting a wild boar whose tusks are 20 centimeters long will cost 899 euros. The most expensive is red deer with antlers weighing 8 kilograms: 2590 euros. For people interested in hunting in Poland, there are many sites with info. www.polandhunting.com/boar_hunting_gallery.htmReal rarities, not only in Europe, are European bison hunts: The largest concentration of bison is found in the Bialowieza National Park in Poland. These animals, known as zubr in Polish, have their welfare monitored by the Polish organisation known as 'Operation Zubr'. Poland Hunting is able to offer a very rare opportunity for the trophy sportsman to take one of these special animals. We have a small allocation of bulls and cows which can be taken as a result of herd management. This is a unique opportunity. www.polandhunting.com/deer_hunting.htm

Why are the cost so high, and who gets the money, and the meat from a shoot? Mike Hmm, the costs are high? I don`t think so. Remember, most European hunters are rich guys ( Germany!!!). ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D It is an exclusive hobby, I know a few hunters in Poland, they are lawyers, dentists, businessmen etc. As for money and meat distribution, I am not sure, I am not a hunter myself. My guesses: meat of big game, after being vet tested, lands in meat factory where it is changed into sausages, pates etc. You can buy it hypermarkets later on. Money. Most part is taken by the state as hunting tax. Some part is taken by the Polish Hunting Society.

I think it would be much more fair if those guys would go hunting the wild boars bare-handed, no?

I think it would be much more fair if those guys would go hunting the wild boars bare-handed, no? Well, not quite. After all, the boars have their spiky sharp tusks. Hunters should go armed with knives, spears and bows.

And I understand the atavistic will to hunt present in some people. Want I don't understand is the will to kill for the sake of killing - as most probably presented by the dandies with guns on the pictures. Not a drop of mud on their elegant coats, not a a trace of the many hours of following the animal to hunt it. They are just taken by car near the animals, the battue make te animals run and.. that's it.

Here, when you hunt for deer, you wait in a tree stand, and when they come, you shoot them. If this was not done, the deer would take over, and eat all the farmers crops, and cause much damage, and over take us.

Displaying their high-tech rifles over a dead body of an animal...... I wouldn`t be able to act like that. I would feel like a fool. I probably told you this story somewhere here in the Polish forum, this or that. The last time I killed a wild animal was in 1996, I went on holiday to the lakes with my girlfriend, today my wife. I had borrowed a fishing license and a rod from my sister`s boyfriend. I went fishing one early morning. After an hour I caught a nice fish. I pulled it off water. When I saw it springing on the planks of the fishing bridge, I changed my mind and decided to let it go. What is more, I decided to give up fishing completely and never kill a wild animal for my personal pleasure.

Do you think the cows, sheep, pigs you eat die of old age? If we don't kill off many wild animals, we would be over run with them. Here in the USA, this is controlled by the government, as to when and where you can hunt, and how many of each sex you can only kill. The others are tracked, so that they, to many don't die off, on there own. They even feed, and give care to many of them.

And both tufta and me acknowledge the necessity of hunting. OK, let it be. It is only amusing for me and tufta to see how proud those hunters are, because we think there is no reason for such pride whatsoever. If I were them, I would be proud only after killing a mammoth with a single spear. This is true hunting for me. Killing wild boars with modern rifles is simple slaughter.

They eat the foods that are grown for man, not animals.
