Wikileaks endangers lives, says German army commander Wikileaks may have gone too far in releasing sensitive files
The German commander of international forces in northern Afghanistan has warned that the release of classified documents by the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks poses a lethal threat to soldiers.
Major General Hans-Werner Fritz, the commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in northern Afghanistan, said the publication last month of tens of thousands of secret military files by the Wikileaks website threatened the lives of soldiers and Afghans cooperating with them.
Fritz said, for example, that the classified documents contained the names of ordinary Afghans working with ISAF.
"I believe this action is absolutely irresponsible," he said. "It endangers the life and limb not only of our German soldiers, but of all soldiers who are deployed in Afghanistan." www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,5953324,00.html

A effective army is just, in many cases just to stop others from a war, and only used when have to.

Let's face the truth. If one wishes to have effective army one has to use it.... Yes, generals and leaders think so but it is so cynical. The problem is that Taliban is not a modern army which can be confronted in the field and smashed with your Wunderwaffe technological superiority. They hide behind innocent civilians who become the target of NATO hits. Now a question arises: is it possible to have an effective army if it is used against such unusual enemy as Taliban, with occasional massacres of civilians happening here and there?

Yes, generals and leaders think so but it is so cynical. There are no better professionals concerning the army than the generals. But you are right - the truth is sometimes cynical. So who should fight with forces which use peculiar means of performing war??
