Baca - that is Polish for head shepherd. They meet in Lud¼mierz annually, the oldest village in Polish Highlands.
Lud¼mierz [ˈlud͡ʑmjɛʂ] is a village in Poland in the Lesser Poland voivodeship, in the county of Nowy Targ.[1] Lud¼mierz is the oldest village in Podhale and is located about 85 kilometres south of Cracow. It lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) west of Nowy Targ and 66 km (41 mi) south of the regional capital Kraków.
The building of the church which the village is famous for was begun in 1234 and completed by 1238. It is run by the Cistercians who were custodians of the site until 1824.
Lud¼mierz is the birthplace of Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer.
It is the site of the Marian Sanctuary in Lud¼mierz, which was declared a Minor Basilica May 18, 2001.
On June 7, 1997, Lud¼mierz hosted Pope John Paul II, where he said the rosary in the sanctuary's Rosary Garden.
