A group of Graphic Design students from the KABK is doing research on Polish visual culture and prototyping new typographic solutions for the identity of the entire country. The project includes a set of lectures and an intensive study trip to Wroclaw and Krakow.
The project is an initiative of Pawel Pokutycki, lecturer of Interaction Design at the KABK, supported by Ada Lopes Cardozo, head of the Graphic Design department, and Cyprian Koscielniak, illustrator from NRC Handelsblad and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

How to (re)design the visual identity of the entire country and change its (inter)national image by means of typography?
Poland is one of the largest, dynamically developing economies in Europe, with a rich history, culture and beautiful touristic sights. Yet it remains undiscovered for the majority of citizens of Western Europe. One of many reasons for this situation could be the lack of a professional vision of Polish governmental institutions as well as Polish creative industries (entrepreneurial designers, communication specialists, branding experts etc) regarding the promotion of Poland (and everything what is related to it) in times of visual culture, where the language of design takes an essential role in our perception of reality.
Following this assumption - the starting point of a project - the students of Graphic Design will be asked to take an active role in either POLISHING Poland by prototyping new, better design solutions for Polish urban spaces, products, services, or extracting the UNPOLISHED Poland, finding the most pure and original artifacts in which Polish identity manifests itself and translating them into a language of design.
