Dear group,
I need some information, most off from those of you who live in Poland, and know, or those who came from Poland and can help. What would I need do to retire in Poland? Do I need become a citizen, and if yes, how would I do that? Next could this be a good move for me, if not why? Could I still receive Social Security payments in Poland? Could I use my Veterans Insurance for my health care in Poland? Who much would insurance cost, health, for my wife, and me, if I can not use my Veterans Insurance? How much would it cost me to rent a two bedroom apartment in or near Warsaw? Could I start a business there? Would it hurt me, since I don't speak or read or understand Polish? I love Poland, and think this could be great for me. What am I overlooking, that would be bad for me? Please help, if you know for sure, the answers to my questions, with out just a guess. Where could I find out more information on this?

Thank you for your help!!! Mike you can't be serious Mike. it's doable but man, what a hassle. without speaking polish, you're up the sh.t creek man. the bureaucracy here will seem like nothing. you'll actually think VA visits are fast. VA insurance - NO SS and pension - yes business - almost impossible to navigate the gauger knot of business laws, taxation, etc.. and without polish, well, i already said it above. if you make any money in PL, you'll have high tax burden there and then you'll still have tax obligation here as a US citizen. you think Obama's taxes are going to be high? lol.. chump change compared to what they pay there. polish health insurance - since you're not EU, hoops, hoops, hoops, and more hoops. info on the other stuff can be found on that other polishforums.

Is there no one out there who can help, or want to? Mike What is wrong with you Mike? I think you and your wife are making big mistakes by retiring in Poland. You think you both will have good care in Poland. What do your wife have to say? I doubt she isn't happy with your decisions. She may not want to go and you are forcing her to go with you. With your health problems you have, Polish doctors may not be able to help you. I am sorry for both of you and you are wasting your time dreaming too much. You both have children and grandchildren in here. I think you have change alot since you had surgery and it may affect your mind and you aren't thinking right.

You can't say, you have never been to Poland, and do not E-mail friends and family in Poland like I do. You need do some research on this, before you say what you are saying.

For the record, V A has told me, when in Poland, if I become ill, all I have to do is go to a US Army base, and they will take care of it all. Or the Embassy will help with my V A Id card.

Next could this be a good move for me, if not why? The old Polish proverb goes: old trees shouldn`t be replanted. Even if you stay with or close to your family in Poland, remember one thing: Poland isn`t Florida.

I hate Florida, even when my son, lived and worked there, I would only go to see him. The people, most, or many are very rude, crude, and uncaring to all. I love Poland.

you don't really want any info as you would have followed up on what i told you. thus you really wouldn't be asking for general help anymore.

you're not interested in FACTS otherwise you'd actually follow up on the good info i gave you. just because you want to discount what i posted, doesn't make my info any less valid.

Tufta,
Do you think I could make it in Poland, and since you come from the place I would live, Warsaw, you would know best, as things are now. I think you have more of a handle than most would have. What do you think?

I don't think you could make it in Poland, frankly. However if you do everything Loco tells you to do maybe someday you would.

Tufta,
Loco, has been gone from Poland for some time, and may not know how it is today. Why do you think I would not make it in Poland? Also, Loco is of another age group, and can't understand the way I think.

Dear group, I need some information, most off from those of you who live in Poland, and know, or those who came from Poland and can help. What would I need do to retire in Poland? Get on a plane flying to Poland. Get off in Poland and stay for good. Do I need become a citizen, and if yes, how would I do that? No need. To become one, you need to live in Poland for 5 years. Next could this be a good move for me, if not why? No,m because old tres shouldn`t be replanted. Could I still receive Social Security payments in Poland? Yes. Could I use my Veterans Insurance for my health care in Poland? No. Who much would insurance cost, health, for my wife, and me, if I can not use my Veterans Insurance? It depends on how much you want to spend. At your age and foreign origin such insurance packets are provided by private companies, not by a state and are diversified according to income. How much would it cost me to rent a two bedroom apartment in or near Warsaw? About 1000$ per month. Could I start a business there? Would it hurt me, since I don't speak or read or understand Polish? You can start a business but without ability to use Polish I see it in black colours. I love Poland, and think this could be great for me. What am I overlooking, that would be bad for me? Different culture. Poland isn`t like US, US isn`t like Poland. Yiu may have problemsin adapting. Read this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_nationality_lawwww.justlanded.com/english/Poland/Poland-Guide/Visas-Permits/Polish-citizenshipwww.polishconsulateny.org/index.php?p=43Maybe you can find some answers here too: www.easyexpat.com/forums/ftopic_4563.htm

Why do you think I would not make it in Poland? You say you are in Poland every year, is that so? And you didn't learn a single word of Polish. You will not feel well living FOR GOOD in a country without at least some knowledge of native language.
