Those two people don't even know it is cold out, and there is snow on the ground. Love is great.

This could be the reason, here in the USA, many of the cables are under ground.

They light candles and heat places with gas from kitchen cookers (unless they have fuel generators). Yes, I understand it is horrible way for winter. I know we in Midwest in America are having problems too. Someday we might not need electric & gas company. I alway love to have fireplace burning, it is much warmer. I know some people do not use their gas company. They have fireplace instead. I don't know what will happen in summer, no one can't live without air conditioner. This will be worst summer too. Especially high rise buildings with elevators. I guess we all have to let natures take course.

Not in Chicago, there are lot of posts with Telelphone, cables and some kind of wires. As for underground, don't forget water main pipe break and we get flooding during winter which is bad.

I hate the wet could of Dutch winters, with rain in nearly freezing temperatures, snow, thaw, snow again, thaw, wet slippery, sluggish snow mixed with mud, snow and hail again, thaw and etc. I like snow or real serious freezing when it stays for a while so that you can enjoy the snow or enjoy ice-skating on chanals, ponds and lakes.

Last year the real winter lasted for a week or two, actually. Sorry, Europe is Europe.
