This topic shouild go in Sweet Memory thread, and I even started positng it there, but changed my mind as I suppose there might be more posts in it.
I bought my first PC computer in 1992. I had an access to microcomputers before, my wife`s husband lent me ATARI for a few weeks in late 1980s, it was with a tape player with games recorded on tapes. The first comp had 286MHZ processor and 40 Mbs (Megabytes) hard disc. It was a bit obsolete when I bought it because they tried to empty the shelves to make room for new 386MHz comps coming in stores. It cost about 1200 zlotys, a comp with a monitor. it was about 1000$ then. Stranmge but the price hasn`t changed till today: you always pay about 1000$ for a comp and a monitor.
Games were available on big floppy diskettes and smaller ones too. I remember some giant games which were stored on ten floppy disks, e.g, The Heart of China, an adventure game with beautifully made pictures. The era of CDs with games started in 1995 when the game Mad Dog McCaine, I think, was released on a CD because it was so bulky, about 100 Mbs.
The law was unclear then, nobody cared about it, Poland was still a new democracy, there were bigger problems, so no wonder games and programmes were copied illegally and distributed en masse by salesmen at markets, fairs, even stores. The shop assistant asked customers if they want to have Windows installed for a little fee. Of course, everybody wanted. It lasted for a few years, till 1990s, when the regulations were broken openly. After that the illegal distribution went underground.
I used to play every game available but my favourite ones were flight simulators and strategies......

My boys are fascinated with two games now: Spore - Monster Factory. You start as an ameoba/cell in the ocean and your task is to undergo evolution, leave water and create a civilisation. They got the game as present under a Christmas tree. Seeing a single box they were disappointed but later on the game caught on with them very well. Spore images.google.pl/images?gbv=2&ndsp=18&hl=pl&q=spore&start=0&sa=NEvolve from a cell to a fully developed creature You can modify your creature as you wish Finally, create and defend yuor civilisation Read more www.pcgamersblog.com/50226711/will_wrights_spore_blending_casual_and_serious_gaming.php Spore's gameplay can be divided into 6 diffrent phases: 1) Tide Pool Phase Fight with other creatures and consume them to adjust the form and abilities of your creature. It's survival of the fittest at the most microscopic level. 2) Creature Phase Venture onto land and help your creature learn and evolve with forays away from your nest. The only way to grow is by taking chances! 3) Tribal Phase Instead of controlling an individual creature, you are now caring for an entire tribe. Give them tools and guide their interactions as you upgrade their state of existence. 4) City Phase Bring your creatures' race into a new golden era by building up the technology, architecture, and infrastructure of their city. 5) Civilization Phase Once your city is established, your creatures begin seeking out and interacting with other cultures. Make contact with an olive branch or a war cry. The goal for your creatures is to conquer the planet. 6) Space Phase The time has come to move on to other worlds in your solar system. Make contact, colonize, or terraform, then venture further to find other solar systems. A 'mission' structure provides new goals in your quest for galactic dominance

that's terrible about DQ. This is one of the games I like to play. It takes a lot of time though. there are a lot of screen shots on the webBasically you build forts, get an economy going and build an army then destroy your opponent. Then you move on to another chapter. I think there are 50 chapter. I am about 2/3 there and I have been playing this game a number of years. very slow and a few of the chapters have been extremely though.

I liked such games, in 1990s I played Castles, the very first game of this type. BTW, talking about castles. Did you ever play Wolfenstein?

The only game I am playing is Civilization, so not a great gamer I am. Which Civilisation do you play? Sid Meier`s? Look at page 1 of this thread and see my pics of Civilisation which I also play till today. Rarely, about twice a year now, but still.
