The deer were dispatched quickly and efficiently. Also two large male coyotes who chose to get too close while I was gutting a buck after sunset deep in the woods. My partner and I worked too hard to have our prey stolen by woodland predators. A large deer. 220llbs. 8 antler points. 100kg. I expect about 60kg of meat and sausage from it. Here is where I get the sausage made www.dowdystaxidermy.com/processing.html You can see some Polish style meats available. Bon Appetit! Normally yes, However, I was deep in a ravine where it was pitch black and due to their close proximity, and smell of blood on me and my quarry, they became uncharacteristically bold. I also was amongst thick cover and downfalls where my egress options were extremely limited. Their pelts will go to Russia along with the racoon, mink, muskrat, and otter pelts I gather every year. Remember that nothing goes to waste in nature. The hawks, vultures, bobcat, cougar, and possibly other coyotes will eat what I left. I understand that this seems barbaric in many ways Bo. I think the difference is point of view. In my minds eye, I am a part of nature and the food chain. I do not believe that my existence is problematic for the earth and the environment if I act responsibly. I have secured 100lbs of very healthful lean meat for myself and my family. I have done my part to help control the deer herd and maintain a healthy sustainable deer population. I have protected myself and in the mean time provided a Russian with a warm hat, or coat, or whatever. I've fed the woodland carnivores and even provided a calcium source for the mice of the field. I imagine its difficult to understand how a man can do this and then go home and pet his dog and put birdfeed in the feeder. Its about my place in nature I guess.

Does it mean you give them the dead deer to take meat off it? PS. Why is your mate wearing orange? For better visibility to avoid accidental shooting?

Tim what do you think? I suppose you are against such actions because Nature passes sentences and they shouldn`t be changed by man.
Firemen rescue deer from Baltic ice floe 05.01.2011 12:31
Two deer that had strayed onto an ice floe on the Baltic were rescued yesterday after a five-hour operation. A little after midday on Tuesday, firemen were informed that two animals had been spotted drifting 200 metres out to sea, not far from the popular beach resort of Kolobrzeg. A team was immediately dispatched to the scene with sleighs and diving suits. Success appeared to come quickly, and the first deer was directed back in the direction it had come over the ice floe. On alighting on the beach, the animal swiftly ran into the forest. However, the second animal proved much more difficult to handle. With light fading around four o’ clock, the team was preparing to abandon the action, with the aim of returning the following day with better equipment. By 5 o’ clock the deer had drifted half a kilometre away from the coast, but finally the team made a breakthrough with the aid of a small motorboat. Local administrator Jerzy Kolakowski told TVN that the rescue was only realized thanks to the determination of the firemen: “In the end it was possible to get over there and the crew pulled the deer onto the deck. However, the problems did not end there as the animal jumped into the water. The rescuers pulled it back, tied its legs, and in that way got back to the beach.” After a medical check-up the deer was returned to the forest. A similar incident occurred last year, when a dog was rescued by sailors some 18 miles away from the coastline. (nh)

Does it mean you give them the dead deer to take meat off it? Yes. Generally there are only two conditions that would make me take an animal to a processor. One would be warm weather where I simply don't have time to process it myself, The second would be if I want the animal made into sausage or hamburger and I just don't have time to do it myself. I do dis-embowel them myself always.
Why is your mate wearing orange? For better visibility to avoid accidental shooting? That's me! Yes, Blaze orange is required during modern rifle season. It aids in visibility for other hunters and mostly helps game wardens find you to check your license.
I suppose you are against such actions because Nature passes sentences and they shouldn't be changed by man. I believe if someone puts themself in danger to aid an animal because they feel its important to them I'm fine with it. I don't believe public servants should ever be required to administer aid. Humans are more valuable IMO. A deers fight or flight mechanism is so extreme that you are likely to cause them injury by "helping" them sometimes. Certain injuries are unrecoverable due to this also. Only an animal in perfect health will survive in the wild. Adult wild-born Whitetail deer don't survive most attempts at rehabilitation.

The idea that this situation puts seemingly reasonable people in a quandry and has them petitioning the government for help is slightly amusing for me. www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/0,1518,739191,00.html
