I'm increasingly beginning to wonder why people would want to collect anything. This thought of mine is colored by the fact that I have spent the last three months going through my mother's home and her 91 years of possessions. She was not a person who collected "stuff", but still the process is overwhelming. My question to anyone who collects something is, "Why?" We are only visitors to this world...can we truly "own" anything? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D What do I collect and why?: 1. Books so that I can read them all when I retire. 2. Photos on my comp so that I can sort them out when I retire. 3. My notebooks from each schoolyear with my state school students` achievements so that I can look through them and recall the names and faces when I retire. 4. Cardboard boxes from appliances in case they might come in handy one day. 5. My kids` old toys so that they may come in handy for next generations. That is all. Come on, Jeanne, I don`t believe you don`t collect anything.

I did "save" my children's toys which are now being used by my grandchildren, but that's different than actually "collecting" toys. I also "save" boxes from items I purchase (for awhile anyway) in case I have to store the items away, or send them somewhere for repair, etc. But again, that's not collecting. I don't set out to collect as many boxes as I can! And as far as books go...I "accumulate" them according to my current interests. I'm not intent on constructing a collection of books...I'm just buying what interests me and saving the ones I want to read over again or have for reference.

But I tried so hard to think of things that I collect that I wrote about my pseudo collections too. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
