Before the war

We used to go to Kołobrzeg in 70s. I remember socialist blocks of flats, a few sanatoriums and hotels and vast empty space in the center around the rebuilt Cathedral and a few houses which weren`t destroyed.

In 80s they started reconstructing the Old Town. The houses are not faithfully reconstructed, they are architectural free style, only a general idea was preserved.

Some buildings in the town survived the war destruction. The problem is that they stood like isolated islands in ruined streets and were gradually encircled by primitive socialist economy class architecture.

Today Kołobrzeg thrives due to massive tourist industry exploiting golden beaches, spas and multiple attractions.

It even hosts a statue of a female tourist.
