Krakow was a Free City once. Fascinating story, I just read a book about it. The Free, Independent, and Strictly Neutral City of Kraków[1] (Cracow) with its Territory (Polish: Wolne, Niepodleg³e i ¦ci¶le Neutralne Miasto Kraków z Okrêgiem), more commonly known as either the Free City of Kraków or Republic of Kraków (Polish: Rzeczpospolita Krakowska, German: Republik Krakau), was a city-state created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815, and controlled by its three neighbours (Russia, Prussia, and Austria) until 1846, when in the aftermath of the unsuccessful Kraków Uprising it was annexed by the Austrian Empire.[2] It was a remnant of the Duchy of Warsaw partitioned between the three states in 1815.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_City_of_Krak%C3%B3wMap Constitution upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2c/J%C3%B3zef_Brodowski_002.JPG/800px-J%C3%B3zef_Brodowski_002.JPGCurrency wcn.pl/foto/sklep/high/58317.jpgKrakow Uprising 1846: img6.iap.pl/_r/1184-1797/s/295/206197/Wiadomosci/15313/81322_dembowski.jpgupload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c4/Edward_Dembowski_during_Krak%C3%B3w_Uprising_1846.PNGMemory:
