Speaking of relics...the recent news story of the theft and then the recovery of the relic of John Paul II's blood has me intrigued.
Initially, the press here in the US reported that "his blood" had been stolen from an Italian church. This description of the relic as "the blood of John Paul II" conjured up a vision in my head of a vial containing blood, and being, perhaps in danger of being spilled by the thieves. That was a not a pleasant visual.
Once the relic was recovered by Police, a more factual description of the relic emerged: the relic actually consisted of a small piece of cloth from John Paul's vestments which was stained with his blood from the gunshot wound. A completely different visual!
It just goes to show that we must always be careful interpreting what we read/hear in the press.
