Hi Guys!
First Id like to say this forum has been very helpful to get to know a thing or two about Poland!
Next April I will visit Warsaw for one week to make a project about the city of Warsaw. I have been reading many of your post, they have been a great source of information in general about Polish things. Thank you a lot!
I have a few questions I thought maybe you could help me out.
I have few ideas concerning my project in which maybe you could help me out.
My first idea is to make a project about the (dis)connection with the Vistula river and the city of Warsaw. Even though it looks like there has been some resent developments to connect the city and the people, what I have read the issues is still there.
1st questions: I would really want to find a person or a group of people who used to pend on the river as working with the river. So sailors, or anyone actually who has been made redundant because pollution etc. changes that disconnected the river from the city originally.. I made some research about the area of Żerań Port, Warsaw which seems like one of these slightly forgotten parts of Warsaw if I am correct?
But this for me as a foreigner to find from here is really hard. Would anyone happen to have any advice. Because I would need to have a contact person/subject there before I will come. Or at least a very good idea where to look for such a person.
Any advice how to approach this? : ) I know this can be difficult be I thought perhaps someone here could be the person who might know something about this issue.
More question;
I have made some research that seems to indicate that since 1989 and the independence of Poland the city of Warsaw gave a lot of space for building hypermarkets. These hypermarkets seem to have caused a phenomena which did not prove to be very useful for small local businesses and entrepreneurs. These hypermarkets and their location in strategically bad place s(normally in residential ares) and alongside major roads also relate with the infamous traffic jams in Warsaw. I am wondering if this the situation today? Is still a relevant issue? I found some relevant material for this but it was made in 2008.
My third idea;
It has come to my attention that near the Praga district on the surrounding forest there is people//homeless people living. I have done projects around similar issues so it is also an interest point of mine. Could someone confirm if this is something that is actually going on?
I am also really interested in people who are living more have more self sustainable approach in the urban society. All tips of such people and how to located them in the Warsaw are would also be greatly appreciated.
There is a lot of questions here, but I thought perhaps I will better my chances by asking many and maybe I get a hit for one or two of my questions.
Would be great to see some reactions on the ideas themselves, do you find the relevant issues that should be told about the city of Warsaw?
Have a great Christmas time everyone and hope to hear from you soon!
Best regards
Karl
