Hello,
I am a writer. Currently I am working on the memoir (ghost writing) of a woman who was born in Poland in 1934. I am interested in learning all I can about an area of Eastern Poland (before the war) known as Derazno, Poczta Derewno. It is my understanding that the village was burned to the ground, and that the area became part of the Ukraine. Any background information you can give me so that I can write her story as accurately as possible will be greatly appreciated. As an aside, my memoir writing is for love of the craft of writing and because I believe that this history should never be lost to time. That said, my work is at no cost to the subject. Generally, my work is given to family members to be passed down the generations, it is not written with the goal of publishing.
Thank you again,
xvermonter

Hello xvermonter,
Sorry I can't help you, but your name intrigued me. As I write this, I am visiting my daughter and her family in Vermont for the Christmas holiday!
I hope someone visiting this forum can help you find the info you are looking for!

Dear xvermonter,
Maybe you should contact Polish historical institutes, archives or travel to the region you want to write about. It is very difficult to find information via the internet. And Polish people who live in the Ukraine (and before that in Sovjet Ukraine) are disconnected from Poland. They had lived decades apart from Poland, and many of their children married with Ukrainians or Russians. Maybe today the Polish minorities in the Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania are connected to Poland again due to the democratic nature of these countries. I am sorry that people on this Forum can't help you. Maybe organisations of Polish-Americans (Polonia) or Ukrainian-Americans can help you, because of the shared history of Ukrainians and Poles in that region.
Cheers, Pieter
