Dear Bonobo,
You should visit this corner of Europe some day if you have some spare time. It's true that the Netherlands is mostly flatland (Pays Bas, Low Lands), but we have some miniscule hills, woods and forests too. Arnhem the city I live in is an un-Netherlands like city, because it is build on the hills created by moraines during the ice age. North of the city the large forest area the Veluwe starts, one of the largest National parks in Europe.
The cliché on the countryside of the Netherlands is true, a lot of green grass land, chanals, windmills, soms charming farms, but the cities, like in Poland have become modern metropoles, and are different from the cliché image Dutch Americans, Dutch Australians, Dutch South-Africans, Dutch Canadians and foreign people abroad have. Visit my country and see the real Netherlands yourself, it's a beautiful country. The best advice would be to combine the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg in a Benelux experience.
Cheers, Pieter

Cheers, Pieter Peter, I don`t need to see the Netherlands after seeing your beautiful photos. I joked about fields because I remember a Dutch guy from a campsite who told me that an ordinary Polish hill is like a giant mountain in Holland.

Yes, we have a lot of deer around here. My daughter lives in the next town over from us and it is a very wooded area. Coming home from work at night she has to "crawl" along at a slow speed to watch out for deer crossing the roads. But MOOSE!!! They are HUGE!! Moose are more rare around here...spotted only very occasionally, but further north in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont there are more.

After perusing road accident reports, it seems that mooses inhabit every piece of forest in Poland. A driver miraculously avoided hitting a moose near Krakow.

Stork accidents are very rare All of these images are upsetting to me, but particularly, this one of the stork! The deer and moose crashes are so upsetting because the crashes are so horrible for the people involved. But because they fly, it seems more tragic for the stork than the other animals. One would hope the storks would be able to avoid such a fate by staying airborne when near traffic...

They built a part of a highway, but without protection fences. Result: 3 moose accidents within 2 months.

Wow, never seen anything like that before! Over here there are signs warning of deer in ceratin areas, but I've never seen one. Do they commonly roam like that in Poland? Deer are usually quite timid and shy. Maybe they got spooked by something to go onto the road.

There are such signs here too, mostly in forest areas but not only, among fields too. When there is a sign and an accident happens, it is always the driver`s fault, not animal`s. They roam but not in such herds. So many was sth unusual. They are timid and shy when alone. But in a group, everybody feels brave and kozak. How about young males?? hahaha

it is always the driver`s fault, not animal`s. I'm not surprised, braking too hard, or driving too fast in the first place. But in a group, everybody feels brave and kozak. How about young males?? hahaha Well that lot look to be all male for sure. Safety in numbers. Brave young men? Hahaha!!!

A driver stopped abruptly to let a stork cross the road. Other drivers didn`t brake in time and 4 cars crashed with injured people. The stork flew away unharmed. kielce.wyborcza.pl/kielce/51,47262,23701388.html?i=0 Of course, the stork and the first driver who stopped aren`t to blame. What if your mother was crossing the road?
