Bonobo,
You are using sensationalism to draw us into this thread...they are not flying dogs...they are jumping dogs!! Either way, they are fun to see; probably even more fun to be there and see them in person!

I am going to change this title into Dogs floating in the air.

Real flying dogs
Megabats in the Dutch language are called 'Vleerhonden' translated that is something like batdogs. The German word for it is Flughunde and the Poles Rudawkowate. The Dutch call them that way, because Megabats have dog like heads and faces. Another word for them in English is Flying Fox.
Cheers, Pieter

Yikes! They do look like dogs with wings! Pieter, do you have bats where you live?
The bats in my area look more like flying mice or rats.

In Vlissingen where my parents live they fley around in the garden, over the roof, around the trees. In Belgium, where we had a holiday house in the mountains we had even bats under our roof or in out roof and they woulf fly over in low altitude, circling around the house. Cheers, Pieter P.S,- So there were more bats and animals in the Ardennes mountainst then in the Netherlands regions were I stayed and lived, maybe due to the mountain climate and due to the fact that it is less populated and more agrarian.

Our bats are very beneficial in that they eat a lot of insects, but the problem with them is that they can be infected with rabies. It's a huge problem if they make their way into a house and one of the residents is bitten! Then they must receive a series of multiple painful shots to prevent the deadly disease! Not fun!
