Salmon is popular in Poland and my family prefer it to other fish but I noticed its prices increased recently. The prices were the lowest in 2008 Now I know why: -the Chinese are increasing their consumption of salmon -Norwegian and Chilean salmon farms have been troubled by diseases. Why don`t the USA produce salmon ?

Why don`t the USA produce salmon ? We don't "produce" salmon by farming them because we have native salmon in tributary rivers of the North Atlantic and the Pacific. Salmon have also been introduced in other places such as the Great Lakes. So, one can buy native salmon in our stores, but we also have a good supply of farmed salmon from Norway, etc.

Strange but even Americans noticed it. Proponents for domestic fish farming don’t think we should ever try to rival such numbers, but do advocate a modest increase in our aquaculture efforts. A N.O.A.A. memo predicts that doubling U.S. aquaculture would result in 50,000 domestic jobs and a billion dollars of new value. modernfarmer.com/2013/11/u-s-farming-fish-ever-nowhere-near-china/ Jeanne, if you relatives have a problem with finding a job, advise them to take up aquaculture, it has great potential. A billion dollars!!!!
