It is unbelievable how easily people can damage their reputation and forfeit their careers after commiting stupid acts, especially after alcohol. Don`t they think about consequences? Don`t they realise there is always a border after which you may lose too much?
Case no 1
3 high rank special forces officers in civilian garb got drunk in a hotel restaurant located in a garrison town and started a brawl. Desperate waiters called the regular police but they, one man and 2 females, were overpowered and taken to hospital with broken arms, damaged internal organs, bruises etc.
The army officers` superior declared that apart from regular prosecution, they will be fired. Grave consequences, indeed. But they could have predicted them, couldn`t they?
Hotel
Restaurant
Garrison in Giżycko
Injured police officers
Colonel Bieniek, one of perpetrators, is a son of a famous Red Beret commander, retired now.
Son
Dad
In 2015 he was stopped for drunk driving and suffered all consequences.
PS. On another note
What do you think?
Comments under those articles are mixed:
- half people claim that they should leave the army because they tarnished the immaculate image and uniform of a Polish soldier. E.g., beating women is still considered unacceptable here. The police officers acted properly and should be praised for their dedication.
- other people point out they are valuable specialists who fought in Iraq and elsewhere, so the army cannot afford to dismiss them. Instead, they should be punished in another way, degradation etc. Besides, it is the police officers` fault they tried to arrest those soldiers because such things are dealt with by the military police. Also "tradition" is mentioned, especially brawls started by drunk officers before WW2 in Warsaw cafes and restaurants.
PS 2. How are fights between the army and police solved in your countries?
