I perfectly remember when I was first stung by a bee, it happened in the kindergarten and I can still see that scene when we were playing in the garden on a beautiful day and I accidentally pressed the insect. After a few decades, I was stung again today, by two bumblebees while working in the garden. I didn`t invade their nest, not at all. I was on my knees, planting a mini kiwi bush when suddenly 3 stingers attacked me. Two sat on my thick working gloves and stung. I was so surprised that I stood up and was staring in disbelief at that act of unprovoked violence for a dozen seconds, till I took the gloves off and threw them on the ground, with insects still on. Unbelievable. I was standing there and wanted to cry out loud: Why? I carried on working but now it is the evening and I feel my right hand has swollen and I cannot bend the thumb because the bee stung me on the joint. Was it the colour that attracted them? Or some smell of flowers which I had been pruning earlier? These Hornet resistant gloves are useless.

Hey, my wife keeps repeating it! And I'm sure no one knows as well as she! Yes, we are having an appointment tonight to discuss it. In the morning half my hand was badly swollen and itchy. Earlier I had ignored my wife`s advice and didn`t apply anything on it before going to bed. Eventually, she rubbed some cream and bandaged my hand. It is nearly evening and I still feel my thumb is partly stiff.

Humans certainly do enough harm to the insect world...can't blame them for fighting back!

The stinging took place on Saturday, on Tuesday the swollen hand seemed to start healing. Today it is next Saturday, I saw a little spot in the stung area, it became itchy and I couldn`t resist scratching it. Now the swell has returned and again my thumb is half stiff. Oops. I promise I won`t play with bumblebees anymore as I used to before.

Seems like the same could be said about bees!

I used to close them within my hands and show to my kids how they slip through fingers to get out. And I had never been stung.

As only female bumblebees have a sting, I just got a warning: Never believe a female.
