Small children, teenagers and adults, swimmers and non-swimmers, anglers, tourists and local residents. They are overwhelmed by waves, current and whirlpools, sometimes get a heart attack far from the shore. A lot of fatal accidents happen when men party on the beach and then decide to take a swim. Exactly 25 years ago I witnessed such a tragedy at the lake near Krakow, a few young men jumped into the water, then went underwater in a mock race and one disappeared. I will never forget the gruesome atmosphere of the search.

Since that time, I have always tried to swim with that swimmer`s aid, orange buoy. If I didn`t have one, I took a big mineral water bottle and strapped it to my shoulder.

Then most horrifying news is when a few siblings lose their lives at a time. Two boys and a girl went swimming in stormy waters despite their parents` warnings. Beach goers tried to help and even rescued one boy but too late, waves were too strong. Mother had gone to the toilet with the youngest child.

















This rescuer found the girl`s body after a few days. He said he would never forget the moment.
