The battle goes on. After freezing winter, the arid weather has set in. April and May were very dry. Farmers expect 20% decrease in crops this year. I had to water the garden/veg plot a dozen times this year, a record so far. But our area is still doing much better than the rest of Poland afflicted by the drought. I've noticed the lack of precipitation just from watching the stork webcam. I can remember other years when nestlings would die, or almost die and have to be removed from the nest to be cared for, from heavy and consistent rain. This year, I cannot remember seeing even one rainy day...and I watch the webcam every day! The nest I watch has five thriving young storks.
That's nature for you...what's bad for the vegetation is good for the nestlings! But maybe it won't continue to be good for the storks if the ponds dry up and frogs become scarce!

Krakow area, close to the mountains, is in much better situation than other regions. The danger has passed, it has been rainig for a few years, now I am waiting for the sun because melons and watermelons stopped growing.

Hopefully, those melons will make up for lost time and get nice and fat! Yes, it is hot and sunny again. Sounds like weather that will be good for the garden. We had a severe heat wave last week. There were temperatures in the 90s (F) for several days, and the humidity was unbearable! We are having a brief respite of cool air now, but more 90s headed our way for this upcoming week!

Yes, humidity is even worse than heat. When in NYC, I once stayed in an apartment without air-cond and I was in agony. Probably it was one of the reasons I never thought of staying in US longer.

An apartment in the city without air-conditioning would be pure torture!! We don't have air-conditioning, but we live away from the big city and we have a yard with grass, trees, and shade, so for the relatively few number of days we would like to have air-conditioning, we manage ok. Usually, the nights cool down enough to make it tolerable, whereas in the city the asphalt and buildings retain the heat overnight.

In recent years summer heat waves could last for two or three weeks so I decided to buy air-cond at last. Waiting for the night to cool down the air was useless, the house was too hot inside.

Yes, two or three weeks of extreme heat would be insufferable. We just had a week of it (which is fairly unusual) and it was exhausting! Are you speaking of your home in the city or in the country? or both?

The district in the city is airy and windy?? That's not a description that I usually hear about city living, unless the city is on the coast, which I know Krakow is not...

But the Windy City isn`t on the coast... If you are referring to Chicago as the "Windy City," it is on the "coast"...the coast of one of the Great Lakes, which produces the wind! Lake Michigan is the second largest of the Great Lakes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Krakow is on the shore of a huge lake, or the ocean...

Like mock turtle soup. 2 Krakow is situated on two banks of the longest river in Poland, Wisła/Vistula - it equals the (second) largest lake wherever. Besides, we have a lot of seagulls here. How did they get here? Strong winds blew them, simple.

A lake shore, especially the lake shore of Lake Michigan (which is one of the GREAT LAKES!!) is a real honest-to-goodness coast! 2. Being situated on a river does NOT compare to being located on the shore of one of the Great Lakes!! Sorry, no way does it! Having seagulls is irrelevant to this discussion. The river I live along even has seagulls, and Lake Michigan, I'm sure, has seagulls, and seagulls are found frequently around trash dumps! I also disagree that the strong winds blow the seagulls where they are...rather, they arrive there because it is a food source, be it oceans, lakes, rivers, or dumps!

Why should I stop being a teacher in my way, when you insist on continually being a teacher by constantly challenging me to explain my thoughts...a teacher's "trick" if I've ever seen one!

Yes, my joke is described by the proverb: The cauldron admonished the pot. You know, calling the kettle black etc.

See this animated image of 1/6 Poland flooded by rising waters. Compared to other countries which are threatened with complete flooding, Poland is stil in a good situation. biqdata.wyborcza.pl/biqdata/7,159116,25469532,szczyt-klimatyczny-w-madrycie-po-wenecji-zatonie-i-polskie.html
