I can see it growing nice in my garden. I love such exotic stuff which isn`t really exotic because it was popular in Krakow area in the past - people made pickles of it, like cucumbers. It is time for a little rivival. Basically, it is a lettuce with edible leaves and stem. Officially called Karol`s lettuce.

It is time for a little rivival. Basically, it is a lettuce with edible leaves and stem. Officially called Karol`s lettuce. Basically, it proved a failure. The skin of the plant is too thick to eat it, and peeling it is a nightmare, not worth the effort. I gave up after peeling three thickest stems and fed the rest to our rabbit. I suspect the seeds in the packet were of another species because my plants had purple leaves while the cover photo shows sth else.
