Despite the tragedy in which 96 people died, the atmosphere about the monument is farcical.
The monument to President air crash must be protected by the police 24/7 against political opponents and ordinary vandals hungry for fame . It was erected by PiS governor of Warsaw province in a famous square against the negative opinion of the town council and local residents. There was a hot debate but PiS enforced the erection anyway.
But they are not able to fully protect it.
Another thing is the artistic idea for the monument which looks like stairs. Critics point out that it first appeared in a comic story in 1980s, in one of my fav series about a humanized ape. Yes, when I saw the monument, I immediately recalled the comic and its stairs to nowhere.
