There are 897 towns and cities in Poland, including 5 new ones. How does a village become a town? Must have 2000 population and urban appearance. 2/3 of the population must work in non-agricultural jobs. www.tvn24.pl/-1,1579625,0,1,polska-urosla-onbsppiec-miast,wiadomosc.html New towns: Bobowa - the place I visited once. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BobowaPast Szczucin - I think I drove through it once. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szczucin

I want not anybody to insult, particular those peoples who liveing in this citys, but I suppos it must take for their a lot time to became a true city. It is about character this people, they lived in a villeege until, and suddenly thye wakes up in a city?
It is too speedy, this waking sudenly in a city. They must working hard to be a real city.

I think it has so to do with the number of people living there. This is the case in the U.S.A., to be a city, you must have so many people first.

In the UK the Queen grants so many towns the right to become a city it happens only after so many years not sure how many but the major towns have to prove to the Queen they are worthy to be a city, population is a major priority but things like what services the town provide also come into it.Quite a complicated process also the winning town receives a huge windfall of cash (up to £5million)to spend on further improvements and create more jobs.
