I found it funny that there are still guys who don`t know about political correctness in the USA. Just like that teacher who gave his 5th grade students a Math exercise about slaves. The guy was suspended after a lot of indignant reactions. . Using slaves as part of a math problem was a pretty poor/stupid idea, but in the U.S. teachers are encouraged to tie together the various threads of curriculum to make it more relevant for the students. It could be that these 5th graders are also studying U.S. History, and the teacher may have been trying to connect his math lesson to what he is teaching in Social Studies. I'm not defending him, I'm just saying it could have happened, and it could have been misinterpreted by the parents and taken out of the context of teaching across the curriculum. It is an all-around bad idea to use this type of thing in math problems, but the buying and selling of slaves is, unfortunately, a part of U.S. history. Is it better to pretend it never happened?... “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it,”(not sure who said that...but it's true!)

One possible explanation: He might be a white supremacist who is biased against blacks. I met such types in other fora and they really believe that slave trade wasn`t so bad after all. They cherish certain myths - e.g., that black owners had more slaves than white ones. Ridiculous.

They cherish certain myths - e.g., that black owners had more slaves than white ones. Ridiculous. Yes, I believe your explanation is a plausible one because such types do exist. However, my thoughts came from my personal observation of U.S. media, who love to jump to conclusions and always think the worst of a person without listening to the person's own explanation. I've seen it happen enough times to recognize the need to investigate and LISTEN before hastening to judgement! An example happened a year ago, when a young, white male (a teenager from a Catholic high school) was video-taped by news media wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat (what Trump supporters wear)and standing before a Native American man who was approaching him beating a drum amidst a large and boisterous crowd of many protesters of varying agendas (this took place at the March for Life in Washington D.C. in Jan. 2019). The young man was smiling...so the news media branded him as mocking the Native American. What was actually happening was the young man was behaving with great grace and self-possession in what could have been a volatile situation. He was condemned and denounced by the media, but the person who originally made the report ended up apologizing to him. Here they took a teenager, who was on a school field trip to the March for Life in D.C., who for fun along with his buddies bought "M.A.G.A." hats, and vilified him! So unfair!

Those notoriously leftist US media can make fuss about anything! Exactly...which is why we have to question all reports... Or read some rightist reports, too and then seek the golden middle way. Aristotle advised it long ago. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_mean_(philosophy)

Yes, I do agree! I did not mean to imply that the far right perspective is the correct one...their reporting must be scrutinized as well! The middle road of moderation is the way to go...at least for me!
