Wow, it is amazing. Kids are flabbergasted too. I managed to harvest two dozen big roots in autumn and put them in giant flowerpots filled with soil for blanching. I brought one to the basement in our block and we already had a few shoots which taste better than the shop ones. And there will be more.

I have never tried endive chicory. I've never seen it in the shops either!

I have never tried endive chicory. I've never seen it in the shops either! That is strange coz it is a Belgian invention from 19th century and today mass produced there and in France. I am sure Great Britain imports that stuff in wintertime when fresh veg is scarce. Look again. Or It can be a bit bitter when not blanched properly. Can it be the reason Brits don`t eat it? We eat it raw leaf by leaf but there are many elaborate recipes for salads.

I will next time I'm in a supermarket, but I've never known anyone buy them. Those filled endive leaves look tasty.
